Question
Sunscreen seems to burn my face and leave my face with uneven skin tone. Am I applying it wrong?

Answer
Thank you for your question. Firstly, I have to ask; “Are you using a body sunscreen on your face? Or are you using a proper facial sunblock?” Body sunscreen does tend to be a bit too harsh for the face. Secondly, if you ARE using a facial sunblock, is it scented? Scented products also tend to sting or burn sensitive skins. Lastly, there are just some people who really do need to be extremely particular about the sun blocks they use and have to pay special attention to the active ingredients in the product, and their skins are just highly reactive; in this case you would need to come and see one of our doctors to have a look at you, analyze your skin and advise you accordingly.
Question
I have been using various skin ranges over the years, most resent being the Rooibos range, but nothing seems to get to the area I’m targeting. I have combination skin(Oily T-zone; Dry cheeks) with hyper pigmentation on jaw line + some acne scars. I’m trying to get started on a new product range, but there are so many products, how do I know which it the best choice for my skin needs?

Question
I have recently discovered a few moles under my armpit. I usually shave under my arms and was wondering if this is the cause. Also is there a way to get them removed?

Question
Hi Dr Allem, recently I’ve been having a few breakouts on my forehead and cheek area. I’ve been to a dermatologist before and he really helped me treat my skin when it was at its worst, he also told me not to pick on/pop my pimples and I don’t, till this day. My question is, if I’m not popping my pimples, I’m living a somewhat healthy lifestyle, I drink up to 3 litres of water per day, then why do my pimples/ breakouts leave me with blemishes and how can I treat them?

Question
Hi Dr Maureen,
I used to use serums as part of my daily skin care routine (combination skin) – and they worked well for me. But hit hard on the pocket. So I started looking into incorporating organic virgin coconut oil into my routine. I am now at the point where I don’t use serums any longer, and just use my coconut oil in conjunction with my normal face moisturizer – even as a moisturizer for my eye area. It hasn’t caused any breakouts, irritations…it’s worked out quite well.
What are your opinions on using organic virgin coconut oil as part of one’s skin care routine? Do you feel that I should still have a serum in my routine?
