Question: Chemical Peels

I have had a series of chemical peels (TCA) and microdermabrasion (alternating every two weeks). I had a total of 6 of each. I haven't had since then (and its been well over a year). My acne is almost non existent (I get one or two breakouts every few weeks that don't bother me at all). My concern is no longer acne. It is now getting a smooth textured skin and getting it to be more even-toned. Should I go back to getting chemical peels and microdermabrasion?

Answer

Thank you for your question. I am happy to hear that the majority of your skin problems have been resolved. Microdermabrasion and chemical peels are definitely treatments that you can look at resuming on a monthly basis, to retain your results, and also to start encouraginging skin cell turn over, which will help in refining the texture of your skin. If your skin texture concerns are really severe, we can also look at incorporating other treatments that work a bit deeper such as laser genesis or if you have some scarring left after your acne, we could look at dermapen or superficial rolling or needling, but that would all depend on what your skin looks like from a textural point of view. But re-starting with monthly microdermabrasion, or monthly chemical peels (and/or laternating betwen the two) is a great start.
