Dry Skin

Good morning

My skin is very dry, I bath in baby oil and other bath oils. put on a lot of cream, but my skin stays dry. As winter is approaching this will just worsen. My face is usually quite hydrated, I don’t have a problem with that, but my lips are just as dry as the rest of my body, I constantly have to put on some sort of lip ice otherwise it chaps and I’m left fidgeting. Please let me know if there are any products you can recommend to me for this.

Thank you!

Hi there Anni. You are using a lot of mineral oils to try and combat the dryness you are experiencing. The problem is that these are merely a very temporary fix. You need to try and use something that is going to penetrate and work a bit deeper than what a baby oil or petrolatum based product (like lip ice) will do. I very highly recommend Neostrata’s “Problem Dry Skin Cream” for your body. There are a few options for your lips, Nimue and Skin Medica make fantastic lip products. These products are available at any of our Skin Renewal Branches. You are also welcome to contact any one of our branches to help you with more options or if you would lke us to take a look at your skin.

Hi Dr Maureen, I am in my late 30’s and am wanting to find out regarding the under eye. I use makeup 6 days a week and found that under the eye its starting to sink in. I heard that collagen plays an important role, can you recommend anything to plump It out, its not extreme I just want to take preventative measures before its too late.

From Masoodah Ebrahim

I’ve been suffering from acne my entire teen and tween years, at some point in my teens it got to a state whereby it was classified as severe acne and put on a very strong dosage of Roacuttane… thankfully it’s cleared with normal breakouts when it’s that time of the month. My main issue is I can never find a product that agrees with my skin or that actually clears up the oiliness and dry patches. Is there a skin care regiment that I can follow or a product that can help? PS: I’m exceptionally hairy as well and low threshold for pain.

I have oily skin and get breakouts, but my main concern is my pores. They are fairly noticeable and I’m really not happy with them. Will regular facials help and what kind should I do?

Question from Lizelle Lloyd

Hi Dr Maureen,

I am a 31 yr old mother with very limited time for skincare routine. I have recently been diagnosed with scalp atopic dermattis and have been put on a course of antibiotics for a full month. Ive only had severe cases after all three of my pregnancies with my last one been 8 months ago. How can I prevent this from returning and what products would you recommend for my scalp-keep in mind I have very curly ethic hair making it very difficult to use some products as I need extra moisture and conditioner for my hair. I have also recently noticed a mild case of eczema on my breast-making breastfeeding quite challenging.

Please help :)
