I’m struggling with post-baby weight, can you help?

Question

Hi, I’ve been trying to lose weight after my pregnancy but to no avail. Before pregnancy I was 70kg but now im 84kg and I don’t seem to go below that no matter what I do. I also have the ugliest stomach which is just hanging and making me depressed. Third baby and 1st C-section. Please help.

Answer

Hi there, shaping up after pregnancy really is tough – especially after your third! If you’re all healed up you need to start aiming for at least 20 minutes of intense exercise three times a week. There is no way around it! When it comes to the tummy area specifically, remember that you need to lose weight all over before you see it in specific areas. Include sprinting intervals into your jogs – even 20 seconds of sprinting 3 times during a short run will make a difference! When it comes to specific ab exercises, you need to favour plank-style moves over crunch-style ones. At this stage, you want to be working the very inner core muscles of your tummy, that work like a corset. If you pull your belly button in towards your spine, you’ll feel the muscles I’m talking about! Tightening those up is key to building a flatter tummy. Mini trampolines are a wonderful option for working all the necessary muscles – and also the pelvic floor – great for moms. And then, of course, nutrition plays a big role. A simple addition to general clean eating would be to start playing close attention to food labels and avoiding refined added sugar wherever possible. Just this one change makes such a difference! Good luck

Why do I feel nauseous after training?

Question

Good morning Lisa, I just kicked into the habit of exercising (it’s my second consecutive week at the gym) all is going well my fitness is building up gradually but sometimes if I go in real hard I feel nauseous. What is the cause? Could it be my diet? Yesterday the last meal I had was a piece of steak, green salad and sweet potato ( also had a packet of popcorn later) but I had to throw up, also it was not lactic acid.

Body resistance training vs. weight training

Question

HI Lisa,

I have recently come across some articles that say body weight exercises/training yield better fitness results than when using equipment such as dumbbells, kettle bells and the like. With all this information bombarding us in regards to what yields better results, what the latest craze/trend in fitness is and the like, would you recommend that incorporating aspects of these different trends into your exercise routine would probably be the best option?
