In what order should I apply my skincare products?

Question

Hi Doctor, I am having some difficulty understanding what order to apply my skincare products. I use a moisturizer, sunscreen, serum, eye cream and sometimes a primer. Please could you give me some clarity?

Answer

Hi reader, you are not alone in finding it confusing to apply skin care layers correctly, but a general guide can make it easier:
After using your skin cleanser, gently rinse off and pat dry. Apply the serum product first and allow to soak into the skin for a few minutes. Then apply either your primer or your main moisturizer cream to the face and your eye cream to the delicate areas around the eyes. After that, you can apply your specialized spot treatment cream and then cover the whole area with a broad spectrum sunscreen before applying makeup. Sunscreen should be reapplied later in the day again.

Question

I suspect I might have hormonal acne, because I breakout quite badly a week or so before my period. I’m in my late 20s and really thought this would have stopped by now? I can’t really afford to see a dermatologist. Is there something I can do? I’ve heard giving up milk helps, does it? Thank you!

Whenever I workout my face gets very red and blotchy, and the redness stays for ages. Apparently this isn’t good for your skin, but I don’t want to give up exercise. Is this really a problem and can I do something about it?
