Question

I have a darker pigmentation on my neck and body, and I would like to get rid of it, I’ve tried so many creams to lighten it, yet nothing works. Ay suggestions?

Answer

I’m going to be brutally honest with you and say, that pigmentation is not something that you can effectively treat with “over the counter” creams and preparations. It requires the use of active, products and treatments, and even then, it is a condition we need to manage and monitor continuously. There are a number of things we need to establish before we even start treatment. Can you consider the following as having been a factor in causing your pigmentation?
1. Trauma or friction in the affected areas?
2. Hormonal imbalances? (Are you on any meds that affect the hormones?)
3. Are you taking any meds that cause sun sensitivity? (Anti-histamines, anti-depressants, anti-inflammatories?)
4. Do you have any food allergies?
5. Do you put on perfumed body lotions? These often cause skin sensitivity and the skin pigments as a protective mechanism.
Once we know what has caused the problem, we would be able to decide the best course of action in treating the problem. Can you give me some more info so I can help you? Or are you near enough to one of our Skin Renewal Branches so that we can take a look at you?

I have oily skin and get breakouts, but my main concern is my pores. They are fairly noticeable and I’m really not happy with them. Will regular facials help and what kind should I do?

Question from Lizelle Lloyd

Question

Hi Dr Maureen,

I am a 31 yr old mother with very limited time for skincare routine. I have recently been diagnosed with scalp atopic dermattis and have been put on a course of antibiotics for a full month. Ive only had severe cases after all three of my pregnancies with my last one been 8 months ago. How can I prevent this from returning and what products would you recommend for my scalp-keep in mind I have very curly ethic hair making it very difficult to use some products as I need extra moisture and conditioner for my hair. I have also recently noticed a mild case of eczema on my breast-making breastfeeding quite challenging.

Please help :)

From Tshehlana Noge

Question

Hi Dr Maureen, I have oily skin and in my 30s. I’m looking for a skincare treatment that will assist with clearing my skin and keep the oiliness at bay as well as serve as an anti aging. It doesn’t have to be in the same jar. I’m currently using Mineraline Time-it products for anti-aging, but it’s not doing anything for the oilyness and the random breakouts. Please could you advice.
