Answer

I’m so sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time finding a suitable product for your skin. By reading your story it sounds to me like you are just one of thos patients that has a very reactive and sensitive skin, this is why you are reacting to most products. Unfortunately in a case like yours, if what I’m understanding from the info you have given me is correct, "over-the-counter" cosmetics are probably going to be an issue for you in general. You could keep going and try to find something that works by trial and error, but this could become very costly and demotivating if your skin just keeps reacting and deteriorating. In my personal experience, there is one product line that really helps patients with this problem and that is Lamelle’s Serra range. It is very affordable but you can only get it from a medical practise. My advise to you would be to locate your nearest skin renewal branch on www.skinrenewal.co.za and get yourself the cleanser, a moisturiser from this range, and an SPF. Alternatively, one of our doctors or therapists can may analyse your skin and discuss what you have used in the past and make an appropriate, specific reccommendation from you after having had a close look at your skin. We can then determine the correct products that you should be using eg.Nimue-interactive range(for irritated and reactive skin), OR Serra from Lamelle, or whatever the appropriate range is for YOU.

Question from SunetteV

Question

Hi Dr Maureen,

I’m in my mid 40s and generally have a very dry skin. I get small, hard white pimples around the area below the sides of my mouth. While I follow a good cleansing routine, they don’t ever really clear up. I’m concerned that there may be a hormonal cause as they do get worse certain times of the month. Any advice?
Thanks, Sunette

From Masoodah Ebrahim

Question

I’ve been suffering from acne my entire teen and tween years, at some point in my teens it got to a state whereby it was classified as severe acne and put on a very strong dosage of Roacuttane… thankfully it’s cleared with normal breakouts when it’s that time of the month. My main issue is I can never find a product that agrees with my skin or that actually clears up the oiliness and dry patches. Is there a skin care regiment that I can follow or a product that can help? PS: I’m exceptionally hairy as well and low threshold for pain.
