Born 1960 in Cheltenham, England, educated at Oldham Grammar School, Bill Gaytten originally intended to follow in his father’s footsteps and went to study for a degree in Architecture, from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. Bill Gaytten’s expertise to innovate patterns, cut and drape are what define the DNA of John Galliano company where he has worked for twenty-three years. Paul Poiret, Madeleine Vionnet, Christian Dior and Chanel amongst his formative historical fashion designers – Vivienne Westwood and the fashion revolution she caused a catalyst that inspired him to join the fashion scene. A chance airport stopover, en route to the West Indies, reunited him with Galliano and, with the business revived, they began working together again and in 1994 Gaytten moved to Paris. Gaytten was one of the core team that saw Galliano become couturier at Givenchy in 1995 and on to Dior in 1996. Gaytten himself went from a cutter in the ‘flou’ atelier, to become part of Galliano’s inner-circle and design team when Galliano was appointed at Givenchy, and was involved in all creative aspects.
2011 Bill Gaytten is named Creative Director of John Galliano SA.
The John Galliano brand is a house built on friendship, savoir-faire, and atelier excellence. Gaytten embodies the romance, spirit and technical innovation that sets the John Galliano brand apart as well as has the vision to take it to the future.
