I remember my mom telling me I needed to find my ‘signature scent’ and stick to it. And I did. Until the bottle ran dry. In 2008 it was DKNY’s Original, in 2009 Clinique’s Happy and for at least five years it was CK One. And then I realised how bored I’d become settling for just one scent.
So, out with my mom’s advice, and in with mine! Now, most days I wear fragrances depending on my mood, and more particularly my day. Sadly, I also now have a lot less cash to spend on fragrances because #children. Which is why I was pretty much like a kid in a candy store at a recent fragrance launch. The brands’ 2017 range includes a perfume for pretty much any moment – from trusted limited updates to dazzling new additions – all at affordable prices.
4am wake-up call, 7am flight. Sjoe! It’s tough being a jet-setter. To wake yourself up and keep feeling as fresh as a flower for a few hours, spritz on Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers Sunlight Kiss EDT, R425 for 100ml, which opens with head notes of citrus and florals mixed with woody and musk notes. Or try Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue Uptown NYC EDP, R495 for 75ml, which offers a musky, woody and floral mix.
Both are sophisticated yet energising and playful. These fragrances go a long way while you’re taxing down the runway.
Whether it’s a meeting with a client or a Saturday morning with the girls, you still want to smell fresh, but maybe well, a bit zesty. We recommend Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Mimosa EDT, R425 for 100ml. It’s the free-spirited green tea floral fragrance that’s always been a favourite but reinvented with a citrus and mimosa sparkle that radiates natural femininity.
If you’re hoping to impress with something powerful, try Giorgio Beverly Hills Gold EDP, R695 for 50ml. It offers the opulence of alluring Oud, balanced with rose and vanilla. Otherwise, try something sweet but not too sweet – you still want to be able to taste food, right? Giorgio Beverly Hills Glam EDP, R595 for 50ml, is a woody floral with an urban edge.
Late afternoon cocktails
Complement those sun-downer cocktails with Viva La Juicy Glacé EDP, R895 for 50ml. We love its fresh pear notes, woody and vanilla undertones, and citric bursts. For an added touch of cool sensation, put the fragrance on ice as the change in temperature transforms the scent and feel of the fragrance. It launches on 18 September 2017.
We weren’t expecting much from the twenty-second perfume from Britney Spears, but this charming fragrance inspired by her passion for dancing, VIP Private Show EDP, R465 for 30ml, has won our noses over. It’s a spinoff of ‘Private Show’ and the fruity scent is a pure candy-coated indulgence.
For a formal evening event, go with something grand and as Elizabeth Taylor famously said, “You can’t cry on a diamond’s shoulder, and diamonds won’t keep you warm at night, but they’re sure fun when the sun shines.” Elizabeth Taylor’s Love and White Diamonds EDT, R695 for 100ml, is the perfect accessory to your little black dress. The fragrance is a ‘heartfelt’ accord of tuberose, gardenia, and a touch of Rose, with mandarin and neroli freshness on top and a sheer, musky, woody background. On the other hand, Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue ROYALE EDP, R795 for 75ml, will add the right amount of seductive mystery to any outfit while being audacious and feminine. It’s a heady mix of raspberry liqueur, bergamot and orange flower with base notes of Amber Oud and Musk.
These fragrances are available at selected department stores and pharmacies.
