Coming up roses
Wednesday, 5 October 2011
Much like make-up colours, fragrances are also totally dictated by trends.
Matt Frost, global marketing director of fine fragrances for International Flavours and Fragrances (IFF), reckons rose is having a serious moment right now – but not just any rose… Frost says its now all about roses that’ve been ‘reinvented to get the rich, velvety texture of the floral at the heart’, but a little bit more ‘modern and peppery’.
Here’s our pick of the crop of this year’s new rose-inspired scents – none of which smell like your gran. Promise.
First up, we’ve got Issey Miyake’s latest L’eau D’Issey flanker, L’eau D’Issey Florale. It opens with lily and rose top notes, but soon dries down to smell a lot like the original scent many know and love.
Love the bottle? It was made to live in your bathroom. YOUR’S specifically. Yes… really….
Guerlain Idylle Duet, R990 for 50mls, is a soft, romantic floral that features Bulgarian rose and Indonesian patchouli top notes. Its heart is a floral mix that includes lily of the valley and jasmine, resting on a base of white musk and even more patchouli.
‘Cos everyone knows that awesomness comes in threes…
The latest scent in Prada’s Infusion series is Prada Infusion de Rose. It contains both Bulgarian and Turkish rose, but gets a feisty kick of freshness, thanks to the addition of juicy mandarin and peppermint.
What am I wearing? Prada, darling, Pra-dah…
It’s not available in SA just yet, but when it finally does reach our shores, you’ll probably pay around R990 for 100mls, which is the price of Prada’s last limited-edition lovely, Infusion de Tuberose.
