Fragrant message

Tuesday, 15 January 2013

Before too long spontaneous midweek nights out, lazy mornings, sand between your toes and mid-afternoon couch naps will be a distant memory (until the Easter holiday, that is, so hang in there). In the meanwhile, it’s time to get on with it, so we thought we’d take a look at some fragrances (both old and new) to help you portray the person you want to be in the new work year.

Fragrant message

Quiet confidence: Guerlain Idylle EDP

This fragrance is perfect for revealing a hint of your feminine side if you’re constantly playing hardball in a male-dominated office. The floral notes of Bulgarian rose, lily of the valley, jasmine and fruits like litchi and raspberry are sensual without being girly; and long-lasting without being overwhelming.
R995 for 50ml, R1 415 for 100ml

I’m not intimidating: DKNY Be Delicious EDP

Like a breath of somewhat fruity air, DKNY is unmistakably fresh and playful. This makes it perfect if you need to come across as more approachable and less of a tyrant. You can also try DKNY Be Delicious Eau So Intense – it’s the same fragrance, but with more kick and longer staying power.
R685 for 50ml, R930 for 100ml

I’m the boss: Givenchy Dahlia Noir EDP

If you’ve recently been promoted into the management role you’ve been dreaming of and you suddenly need to be more assertive, a cotton-candy scent isn’t going to do you any favours. You need something that shows you are strong and grown-up – which is where Givenchy’s Dahlia Noir is the business. Top notes of iris, rose and mimosa are intertwined with strong, almost masculine woody notes to create an intense fragrance.
R660 for 30ml, R1 145 for 75ml

I can be fun too: Estée Lauder Sensuous Nude

This fragrance has it all – it’s fun, feminine and warm. So if you’re seen as a little uptight at work, this blend of rose, mandarin, musk, woods and coconut water is a good scent to try.
R595 for 30ml, R795 for 50ml, R1 050 for 100ml

Back to school: Balm Balm Seven Single Notes

There’s nothing juvenile about these seven notes, but I remember not being able to settle on a scent while I was at school – I just couldn’t decide and there was too much to choose from! These Seven Single Notes will allow you to mix and match and blend your own scents. You can try out multiple different blends, or wear single scents on their own. This way you can eventually have a school scent, an afternoon-with-the-girls scent and a night-out scent, should you wish.
R130 for 7 x 2ml vials, available from susan@balmbalm.co.za
