Picking up flowers and movie tickets, or making dinner reservations at the last minute is a man’s prerogative when it comes to Valentine’s Day. As women, we understand this. But one thing that can’t be done at the very last minute is grooming for a big date, especially if it’s your first. Put in a little time and you’ll reap the rewards – and remember, if it feels like too much effort just pause for a moment and think of all the pain and pampering she goes through to look good. The least you can do is pluck those nose hairs! Here are a few grooming tips and tricks…
If there is one day when you should take extra special care over the shave then it’s Valentine’s Day – stubble and rash free is the key to success. Try a little pre-shave oil to keep skin supple and moisturised. Use a brand new razor and take your time. Leaving the house with bits of tissue stuck to nicks and cuts won’t win you any points. Shave the cheeks first and leave the neck, chin and upper lip for last; this will give the trickier parts time to soften up.
While we women let many things slide, dirty fingernails are not one of them. You can tell a lot about a man by his fingernails, so make sure yours are clean and neatly trimmed. Scrub them with a nailbrush and trim them across the top and clip on either side. For the finishing touches, file down the corners so they are rounded and natural looking. All necessary nail care tools are available from your local supermarket.
Trim rogue hairs
Ear and nose hair is not a part of the Valentine’s Day date package, so get rid of it. While nose hair does serve a biological purpose it doesn’t have to extend out past your nostrils so get a nose-hair trimmer and trim it to a point where it’s not visible. Ear hair on the other hand just makes you look old and unkempt – pluck it out with tweezers. Remember, all plucking is easier after a shower when the hair is softer.
Keep it tidy down there…
If you do plan on ‘coming in for coffee’ then remember that just as you appreciate a clean playing field, so will she. Besides, if you want to encourage any time enthusiastically spent down there then keep it under control and well-groomed.
… but don’t go overboard
While women do appreciate a man who has made the effort to tone down the grizzly bear effect, her appreciation will rapidly diminish if you take it too far. It’s great to try something different once in a while, but the only men who should remove all body hair are professional swimmers. Otherwise, it’s just kind of weird. Trim, pluck and shape but remember, if it’s not for the purpose of increased streamlining leave a little natural foliage for her to wantonly run her fingers through. No woman wants a man who is smoother than she is…
