Five easy gym hairstyles brought to you by Aussie

Keeping our hair at bay while we’re working out is sometimes a bigger challenge than it should be. Besides for it getting in the way, it’s also difficult to keep it looking nice while we’re breaking a sweat… And although we don’t always care about our looks while we exercise, we know the importance of making a good first impression – regardless of where you are! Try one of these five easy gym hairstyles the next time you’re off to your workout.

The topknot or rounded bun
This style is perfect for high intensity workouts as it keeps your hair away from both your face and your neck. If your hair is layered, secure your bun with a few bobby pins to ensure shorter pieces don’t escape.

The root-to-tip braid
Keep your hair neat and perfectly under control by starting your braid from the top of your head, rather than at the nape of your neck. This style is super cute and is great if you struggle to manage coarseness or frizz.

The side plait
If you’re opting for low intensity exercise like yoga or pilates, this is the style for you. It won’t pull or tug at your roots and is perfect for very long hair that becomes too difficult to secure in a bun.

The “clipped fringe” messy updo
Perfect for shorter hair, this style keeps your fringe tucked away from your forehead. If your hair is too short to tie up with an elastic band, pin the loose pieces in the nape of your neck upwards, then twist and securely pin any other pieces getting in your way towards the back of your head.

The high pony
Easy and simple, this classic style never gets dated. Plus, it’s great for keeping the nape of your neck cool while you exercise. Simply run your fingers through your lengths and scoop it up, or for a more polished look, give it a good comb-through first and secure with your hair tie.

The post-gym routine
If you’re breaking a sweat, it’s vital that you shampoo and condition your hair afterwards with good quality products to remove any bacteria and greasiness. We recommend the Aussie Mega Shampoo and Conditioner Street Art Limited Edition – this duo is perfect for regular use and won’t leave you with product build-up. For an added treat once or twice a week, apply the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor Deep Conditioner Street Art Design Edition. You’ll be left with soft and manageable locks in no time!

  1. I’ve actually heard that it’s not always good to wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner after exercise because some of us workout almost every day and washing your hair too often can cause it to dry out and break. They then suggested to only wash it out using no products. Sweat is only water and some salt so it really doesn’t make your hair “dirty”. So if you don’t want to wash it every day this might work well for you

  2. Since my hair is very long – a simple plait is the best. Buns don’t work if you do stuff on your back and ponytails are a nuisance because they whip around when you’re jumping.

  3. Nice hairstyles! I always stick to the high pony & braid combo. Add some coconut oil to your tips before a run – you’re hair will love it.

  4. The best thing is to pull all hair away from the face and out of the way. I usually bun it but now I have other options, Thanks :)
