Hair oils. Professional and non-professional – they are busting the shelves and taking over the beauty world. Just as we think we’ve seen them all, we get introduced to another. From coarse hair to damaged and unmanageable hair, to coloured and chemically treated hair, there is a hair oil waiting to nourish your locks. Here are our picks of professional and non-professional beauties.

Dark and Lovely Amla Legend Oil of 7 Wonders, R49.95
With seven benefits inside this tiny bottle, it promises to rejuvenate. Mix a few drops into your usual conditioner or leave on as a hot treatment and reap the benefits of these seven wonders.

Kérastase Elixir Ultime Pink for Colour-Treated Hair, R470
I wish that the scent of this product could one day be bottled and sold as a fragrance. It smells incredible and leaves your hair with a luminous finish. Designed to protect colour-treated hair and radiate your true colour.

L’Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil, R159.95
An oil that instantly penetrates into the hair and adjusts to each individual’s specific hair needs. This oil can be used as a mask before shampooing too.

Moroccanoil Treatment Oil, R450
A multi-purpose oil that can be used as a conditioning, styling and finishing tool. It adds luxurious shine and is absorbed instantly into the hair. Available for all hair types (including one especially for fine hair).

Acai Brazilian Dry Oil, R315
A dry oil formula that gets absorbed almost instantly, it will help smooth, reconstruct and add shine to your hair. The plus side to this oil is that it helps reduce drying time, which is a big bonus.

Perfect to use as a split end mender. This non-oily hair oil acts as a moisturiser and helps keep your hair shiny and nourished. This oil can also be used as heat protector, serum and keeps your colour vibrant for longer.

John Frieda Full Repair Reparing Oil Elixir, R110
A cure for overworked hair, to put it simply! With all the heat and styling damage our hair endures, this product offers some help. Enriched with Inca Inchi Oil that is rich in omega 3, it helps reverse the look of dull and damaged hair.

Schwarzkopf Gliss Ultimate Oil Elixir Serum, R99.99
If you have very damaged, straw-like hair, this is the oil you need. With golden particles and nourishing oil elixir, it will help reinforce the hair structure and add life back into your damaged hair.

Dove Pure Care Dry Oil For Mature Hair, R179.99
Infused with Anatolian pomegranate seed oil, this oil offers a restorative treatment for mature hair. It is designed to treat ageing hair without weighing it down.

I like the Moroccan oil. Your hair will look great and the smell is good compared to other oils, so you won’t have to wash it out.

I have used the Avon Argon oil on my hair (I Have THICK wavey hair which I straighten). The Argon oil is nice but I feel that my hair is a monster and gobbles up everything because on a normal persons hair it would look oily and glossy after application, on mine, just looks bigger and I have Fly aways… Last week I started with the John Frieda oil… waiting to wash my hair and apply and see if it works…. Am always looking for a product that will make my hair soft and smoothr – ah the joys of having lion hair.

Try Almond oil. I use it once a week, leave for 20 minutes and then wash out as normal. It leaves my hair feeling very soft.

I have been using the Moroccan Oil on my hair for a few months now and has been worth every penny. No more brittle hair! I do find I need to wash my hair more regularly but am really not complaining!

I’ve been using Moroccan Oil for over 2 years now and initially I really didn’t like the scent because I found it to be sweet and sticky. I’ve learnt to love it over time and even though it lingers for quite a while, my hair is really soft after smoothing on a pump of the oil so I’m happy.
