Hair trends for 2013: Up-styles

Monday, 23 September 2013

For seasonal trends, we turn to the runway shows for inspiration. Hairstyles featured on the runway are always gorgeous, sometimes avant-garde, but often impractical for everyday wear. We’ve selected our favourite up-styles for the season that are both beautiful and easy to achieve:
The low ponytail
Sleek low ponytail
The low ponytail was a favourite for several designers at all of the major international Fashion Weeks and it has certainly cemented itself as a firm favourite! The key to achieving this understated look is to ensure that hair is in good condition. Part hair in either a middle parting or a side parting (whichever best suits your face shape) and secure the ponytail at the nape of the neck. If your hair is not naturally straight, be sure to use a good quality heat protection spray before blow drying or straightening it.
Messy up-do's straight from the runway

Messy up-do
For days when you don’t have time to style your hair, why not go for the ever popular messy up-do? The beauty of this hairstyle is that it is versatile! Whether you have long hair or short hair, straight hair or curly hair, this style can be manipulated to suit you perfectly. To achieve this look, simply gather hair up and secure either in a ponytail, a simple chignon or a topknot. To finish off, pull out some tendrils of hair around the face and leave them loose to soften your overall look.
Braids and plaits to try at home
Plaits
Fishtail plaits, braided crowns, regular plaits, you name it – they’re here to stay! This season the standard plait is having it’s shining moment on the runway and we love that the looks are so easy to replicate. Whether you style a small plait into a basic ponytail, or you opt for a slightly more “undone” side plait, your look can be achieved in a few minutes and is guaranteed to add some extra pizazz to any outfit.

I love the messy updos. I am a fan of sleek high pony tails, I have some jewelled hair bands, I even have a gold cuff like the one in the low pony photo!
