Hairstyling products for guys

Tuesday, 23 April 2013

Styling your hair takes time and skill, which is why most of us go with a quick brush-your-fingers-through-your-hair routine instead. However, styled-up hair is worth getting right for special occasions at least (and won’t hurt on the dance floor or at a board meeting either). Whether you’re just trying to tame your hair, or if you’re going all-out with a Mohawk or David Beckham-inspired quiff, using the right hair styling product will simplify the process and help your hard work last for longer.

Men's styling products

Here, our recommendations:

Protect your hair from heat damage by spritzing on a heat protector spray like TRESemmé Heat Defense Styling Spray, R65, before using a hairdryer or electric styling tool.

Keep your spikes/ Mohawk/ cow-lick in place with a good quality hair gel such as Revlon Flex Flexi Gentle Hold Styling Gel, R26.95.

Sculpt your style to perfection with a good quality sculpting product. We recommend Davines Mat Forming Ground for Wizards, R259.

Get rid of unwanted fluffiness (from freshly washed hair or your pillow) with VO5 Extreme Style RoughItUp Putty, R42, and enjoy hold and texture all day long!

Want the ultimate long-lasting hold? Then you need a strong hair wax to keep your creation in place. Try Tigi BedHead Hard To Get, R141, for the best in hair wax.

I have quite a few V05 hair styling products: putty, gum, wax and so much more – I only trust VO5 products. Flex failed me a few times when my hair fell flat after about 10 minutes of leaving the house. Tresemme is also a great products.

M hubby uses the vo5 putty. It works great for him as he has sensitive skin, and this putty does not irritate his scalp or give him a rash as other gels have done so in the past.

My hubby uses a soufflé recommended by his hair stylist. It makes his hair look thicker and fuller and it doesn’t leave a hard or greasy finish. It holds his style in place the entire day and when he gets home I can run my fingers through his hair without ripping a few out!!! Always get advice from your stylist as they will give a product that suits your hair and your budget

It’s always nice when men look after their hair. My boyfriends uses the revlon gel on his Mohawk, and it always looks nice and it smells divine.

Best friend has hair that’s longer than mine! The only thing that might work is the heat defence styling spray… For the day when he finally allows me to take the GHD to his head. lol.

Personally, I don’t think my man should be spending more time on his hair than me. Short and well cut works well for me.
