We thought we would examine the available styles and conduct some (highly unclinical) trials to find out just how hairy a man should be.
The seven-days-a-week five o’clock shadow
As manly as a beard, but requires much less commitment. If the rugged, Camel-man look is your thing, you will undoubtedly find this stubbliness appealing. It’s generally quite low-maintenance, but can look a bit scruffy if neglected for too long. It can be successfully dressed up, though. (Think of a stubbly Ryan Reynolds in a Versace suit … yes, it definitely works!) It’s also great for disguising a very rectangular facial shape by casting shadows or creating width where needed. It is suited to anyone who has a good amount of facial hair … sparse, uneven stubble can look very unkempt. Shaving every few days is the only requirement. Justin Timberlake is a stubble devotee.
