I had acrylic nails done a few months ago and peeled them off myself. I know I shouldn’t have and now it has left my nails soft and damaged. The Sally Hansen product looks very appealing. I will give it a try and hopefully not have not hide my hands in my pockets anymore.

Hi Gross. A good quality cuticle oil and a strengthening nail varnish are key for keeping your nails strong and in good condition. Why not try one of the cuticle oils mentioned in the article and be sure to use a base coat before applying nail varnish to your nails.

My nails tend to be brittle and thin. Since its winter, I am allowing them to rest with absolutely no products on. What would you suggest to boost them a bit?

Hi Abby. Please see below a response to your question from Coty:

“We at Coty Inc. share your respect for life, and we are committed to maintaining the highest possible standards of human safety while eliminating the need for testing on animals.

This is accomplished by selecting raw materials of the highest quality with well-established safety records and using extensive ingredient databases, in-vitro testing, computer modeling and studies with human volunteers. In fact, to ensure human safety all our products are clinically tested as needed on humans before they are sold in the marketplace.

There are rare occurrences when a government or regulatory agency indicates that an animal study is necessary in order to ensure consumer protection for a component of our products and where no validated alternative exists. In these cases, the need for testing is carefully examined by our suppliers and if the test must be performed, it is strictly controlled.

Our research and development team has pioneered safety tests and alternative testing methods in order to eliminate the need for animal testing. Coty Inc. has been actively involved in the search for alternative methods of testing for many years and we support industry research programs such as those conducted by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing, the European Chemical Industry Ecology and Toxicology Centre (ECETOC), the European Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association (COLIPA) and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA).”

These products are nice, but I swear by my Trind Nail Balsam and Trind Cuticle Balsam (available from Red Square stores). Simple, no fuss nail treatments that look lovely (I love pretty bottles), with a pleasing fragrance and, most important, work like a charm!

Some great choices here. If you’re strapped with cash, just massage vaseline into your cuticles before you go to bed and apply a decent hand cream every time you wash your hands.
