Seven products to fix scraggy winter nails

Thursday, 25 June 2015

It’s easy to slip winter toes into thick socks and boots, and let them be until the summer months. Your hands, however, are another story. Don’t succumb to dry cuticles and peeling nails – help is at hand! Here, a few of our favourite winter nail remedies:

nail-rescue-products

Sally Hansen 18k Gold Hardener, R99.95
Known globally for their hardworking nail products, Sally Hansen does it again with this brand new addition – and it contains real 18k gold! The formula hardens nails to lock in moisture and to prevent breaking and splitting. With time, nails become stronger and grow longer.

Sally Hansen 18k Gold Cuticle Eraser, R99.95
Looking to clean up your cuticles? This pen-like applicator contains a gold gel that exfoliates and moisturises the cuticles, making them more manageable. Simply squeeze the tube and gently massage the cuticles with the liquid before pushing them back with the angled cap.

Essie Millionails, R200
Enriched with iron and amino acids, this little bottle is your ammunition for bulletproof nails. Did you know that it contains 1 million molecules that help resist peeling and splitting?

LCN NailCare Urea Boost, R195
Struggling with extremely dry or stressed nails? Try this overnight treatment – it contains 3% Urea, and penetrates deep into the nails, to leave them healthier and shinier.

LCN NailCare Wellness Gel, R205
This pretty gel contains small beads filled with almond oil – simply brush on the gel and massage the beads into your cuticles and nail plate. When they burst open, the vitamins are released and you’re left with a lovely scent.

Crisnail Total Care, R110
Filled with calcium, soy and vitamins, this hardworking product has just the right combination of ingredients to help strengthen and nourish weak, tired nails.

Essence Studio Nails Ultra Nail Repair, R30
Thin or brittle nails? This nail polish fills ridges and makes nails more resistant to damage, all while helping repair existing damage. It contains keratin and can be worn alone, or under your favourite nail colour, as a base coat.

A cuticle eraser of any kind is not something I would generally include in my beauty budget or spend any money at all on. But I must say this one is good and does work well.
You twist off the white cuticle eraser cap to reveal a flat pen-like applicator that contains a gold gel that exfoliates and moisturises the cuticles. Simply squeeze the tube and gently massage the cuticles with the liquid before pushing them back with the angled cap. It has a very fine grainy texture when applied to nails, so you have to wipe off and gel left on the nail surface before painting your nails. It definitely seems to help with nail strength. Worth the price of R99 if you have weak nails that break or split.

I have both the Sally Hansen 18K gold hardener and the cuticle eraser, and they really work, my nails are definately harder and stronger and so many times where I thought I would have broken a nail, I haven’t, love this stuff! The flakes of gold aren’t chunky like glitter so it makes a perfect base coat. The cuticle eraser also gets rid of any ugly cuticles, definatley worth having in your collection, love them!

Essie Millionails is really stunning and really helps with my splitting nails. Can be worn below and above your nail polish, and looks good as a neutral nude nail. Works well as a French nail colour too. Love it!!
