Trends in ethnic hair

Hair feeling a bit tired and defeated? We thought we’d give you a bit of inspiration if you’re looking for a new look, by examining the ethnic hair trends for 2013.

Plaits – especially loose, slightly messy ones – were all over the catwalks at the recent fashion weeks. And the colour trend was too, with slightly edgier (read brighter) colours this season. We love how this model (at the Degan Spring Fashion show) has a twist in her hair, pulled to one side that ends in a bright braid. Colourful and playful.

This gorgeous ballerina bun is just the business to keep your do casual, yet elegant, and off your neck to keep you cool in the last days of warm summer.

The move is towards natural and this look at the Jasper Conran show is certainly that. A short neat style like this looks fabulous always, and requires virtually no upkeep. A bit of oil perhaps, and you’re done. Awesome.

And why not, once you’ve started, just keep going with the natural look and grow that ‘fro? Love it.

And ombre (that is, darker roots and lighter ends) is still big news, as seen above on Raven-Symoné.

Dip-dyed hair is similar to the ombre look but unlike ombre, where the colour change is gradual and uneven, dip-dyed hair looks as if hair has, um, been dipped in dye, giving it a much harder colour differentiation. Also, dip-dying normally features stronger, brighter contrasting colours. It looks brilliant with blunt cuts of any length.
