Earlier this week I got treated to a Minx manicure. I’ve spotted this hot new nail trend on numerous celebs (think Beyonce, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga…) so I was super excited to give it a bash.
I arrived at the Dante Wellness Spa in Sea Point and was met by Eleni Fourie, the distributor for Minx. After a quick shape and buff, she asked that I choose a design. This was actually pretty tough as Minx has loads for you to choose from, from super shiny ‘foil’-like finishes to the crazy patterns favoured by local singer Tamara Dey.
I eventually decided on Gold Lightening, a kinda subtle ‘antique gold’ foil. According to Eleni, it’s one of Beyonce’s favourites…
To apply Minx, it’s really all to easy. The ‘sticker’ gets heated up under a heat lamp so that kinda melts a little bit before it gets pressed onto your nail bed.
Once on, Eleni would fold it over and give it a bit of a trim.
In all, my Minx-ing only took around half an hour to do, yet the effect was utterly awesome.
I’m now four days in and it still looks freshly applied. Check it out:
Before leaving the salon, Eleni warned me that everyone would want to grab my hands and boy was she right. Every second chica that stops past my desk shrieks ‘OMG! What do you have on your nails?! That looks soooo cool’. The only person who can’t stand it is my endearingly boring, conservative boyfriend who thinks the look is too ‘Latoya Jackson’. ‘Boyf scorn’ regardless, I absolutely love it and give Minx mani’s two enthusiastic gold thumbs up. This is definitely something I’ll do again, particularly if I have a special occasion I want to ‘bling up’ for. I’m also look forward to summer when I’ll be able to add a little glitz to my toes…
Want one? Give Eleni a ring on 0861 846 873 to locate your nearest salon that offers Minx. Prices will vary depending on where you go, but I can tell you they’re charging R235 for either your fingers or toes at Dante Wellness Spa.
