Washing the new way

main

Choosing the perfect hairstyle for a big night out usually involves hours pageing through magazines and surfing the net. We say if you’re stuck for a style, turn to the professionals for some inspiration!

Celebrity hairstylist Chris Naselli was in South Africa for the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume launch recently. The collection is all about reverse washing – you condition your hair first and then apply shampoo. This gives you all the moisturising benefits, but creates more volume by not weighing the hair down with conditioner residue. Up until now the beauty jury has been pretty sceptical about this working. The difference with the TRESemmé range is that it’s the first collection specifically created for this concept. It’s not a case of slapping on any old shampoo and conditioner in reverse order.

Chris used the product to showcase the Everyday Volume hair trend at NYFW this year. Below he shares how to get four looks. Before the hair master departed, he shared one last top tip. The one mistake he wishes we’d all stop making, is applying our product incorrectly. He often sees stylists or models squirt a blob of mousse in their hands and dab it wildly on the top layer. This means you have a layer underneath that doesn’t get any. Even distribution is key!

Get the look

Start each style with the Beauty-Full Volume Pre-Wash Conditioner to smooth hair, followed by the Beauty-Full Volume Shampoo to wash away weight. Next use the Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximizer and Mousse to complete your volume look.

The messy bun

  1. Apply a coin-sized amount of TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Touchable Bounce Mousse from roots to ends of damp hair and rough dry.
  2. Pull your hair into a loose, effortless ponytail that sits right at the crown.
  3. Separate the hair in your ponytail into two sections and lightly tease for messy texture.
  4. Take your two teased hair sections and wrap them loosely in opposite directions around the ponytail, securing with a few hairpins. For extra texture, gently pull it apart with your hands or the end of a comb. Resist the urge to try scrape all the baby fine hair around the forehead back, instead use them to gently soften the edges that frame the face.
  5. Finish with a light mist of TRESemmé Firm Hold Hairspray.

Glam waves

  1. On damp hair apply a golf ball sized amount of TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Touchable Bounce Mousse from roots to two inches above the ends. Blow-dry using a medium size round brush for maximum volume.
  2. Create a deep side part.
  3. Starting at the front, curl one-inch pieces from ear level to ends with a 1-inch curling iron.
  4. Pin each curl to set the wave; repeat on both sides and back. When curls are cool, remove clips and brush hair through.
  5. Last, lightly mist with TRESemmé Firm Hold Hairspray.

The lob

  2. Rough-dry hair, using your fingers to lift the roots and give maximum volume.
  3. Use a 1 1/4″ barrel curling iron, curling strands in alternating pattern forward and away from the face.
  4. When the whole head is waved, use your fingers to lightly break up the waves to give you modern texture.
