All wrapped up at Aspira spa

I have never had a wrap before and no idea as to what to expect, so I was excited to review a Lillian Terry International wrap at the Aspira Aesthetic Health Spa in Hyde Park.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by Kim, my therapist for the day. She was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the spa’s products and could tell me exactly which of them would work best on my skin. I also enjoyed the fact that she didn’t talk to me during the actual session, which gave me time to unwind.

Aspira offers several different types of wraps to treat targeted issues like cellulite, detoxify and ease aching muscles. They’re all performed using Lillian Terry International products which contain 100% natural ingredients. I opted for a Vitality wrap that makes use of an antioxidant-rich red clay that contains and contains various minerals like magnesium, potassium, iron and copper. It’s supposed to help boost immunity and hormone function while improving circulation and water retention.

To begin, I was asked to change into a disposable g-string (I was so glad that only one person would see me in it) and lie face down on a treatment bed beneath a towel. I was then exfoliated from my neck to my toes and covered in the red clay. The wax paper was then folded across my torso and legs and the absorption procedure began.

The products have to stay on for a minimum of 20 minutes, so the wrap includes either a scalp or foot massage. I went for the foot option as my feet were in desperate need of a bit of pampering. After the massage, the clay was kept on for another 10 minutes, in which time I started to feel relatively sweaty. Once my time was up, I headed off for a shower in which no soap was allowed, only water.

Once towelled off, my skin felt as smooth as silk as well as totally tingly. I was then sprayed with a moisturising mist which was super chilly, but very refreshing. My session was up, but we’d certainly crammed a lot into just one hour.

It’s now a few days later and my skin still feels incredible, so much so that I’ll definitely have a wrap again, although I probably wouldn’t do it as regularly as they say you should; every five to six weeks, just like a facial. For me it’s a more of a luxury than a necessity, but when you’re in the mood to spoil your skin, I’d definitely recommend it!

A full body exfoliation and wrap at Aspira Aesthetic Health Spa costs R450. To book your appointment, give them a ring on (011) 325 5350.
