Celebrity Slim

Wednesday, 5 October 2011

I love my food too much to ever consider replacing a meal with a bar of something chewy – or worse (in my book) a shake. I am a firm believer in the simple method of losing weight: eat less and eat healthier. But I can quite see that for those people who like structure (not to mention everything you need in one pretty pink box!), the Celebrity Slim meal replacement weight-loss programme would hold appeal. I am also willing to concede that for those days at the office when things are so frantic I quite literally don’t have time to eat (you would be surprised how time consuming beauty can be!) a handy shake or soup (just add water) might be just the thing.

Celebrity Slim has a range of bars, shakes and soups – and a handy shaker

Clicks is bringing the international, and clinically tested brand, Celebrity Slim to South Africa (apparently the ship has left Ireland – clearly taking the long way round from Australia – and is on its way; it is expected to land, with it’s boxes of Celebrity Slim in the first or second week of October. That’s now!).

Celebrity Slim is a meal replacement programme for successful weight loss. It works by restricting carbs (and, obviously kilojoules) in your diet. You are expected to eat five or six times a day (yay!) but to replace two of those meals with either a shake, soup or bar. They also have snack bars. There are heaps of delicious flavours: the shakes come in the usual flavours as well as cafe latte and caramel (Australia has 17 flavours, which will be released in South Africa eventually); the soups come in a variety of soup flavours, and the bars (which are also a replacement for a meal) really are delicious (I tried them): choc mint, fruit and nut, and more.

The prices are competitive: no signing up or registration fees, you can mix and match the flavours, buying them singly or in packs, straight off the shelves at Clicks. The meals are nutritionally balanced, most of the flavours are suitable for vegetarians, and we were promised no constipation because of the soluble fibre. Good to know!

The bad news is you are expected to cut out ALL bread (high fibre, brown, rye, whatever, it’s a no-go), pasta, rice, pizza and potatoes. Gasp. But you can have low-carb beer or dry white wine. Hmm. I think I prefer my bread, guys. With butter. But for those of you who work well with structure and pretty pink boxes, Celebrity Slim is available at Clicks, R417 for the starter pack, R19.95 for the soups, shakes and bars.

When it comes to all of these products I’m very sceptical as I have tried just about everything under the sun and yet I battle with my weight. I don’t loose weight no matter what I do or how hard I try, but I will give this a shot maybe this is the one who knows!

I have tried the meal replacement shakes, the mint chocolate and the strawberry one. The products are a bit expensive but at clicks they sometimes go on special. The whole starter pack or the sachets go on special and with the sachets you get 3 for 2 sometimes so thats a good deal. And yes it does keep you full for long.

Not a fan of meal replacements, eating healthy is hard work, and not as expensive as everyone thinks. But it’s worth one’s time to prepare meals and eat 3 times a day (5hrs apart) and have fruits/veggies as snacks. And drink between 2 and 4 litres water a day … :)

I have tried their shakes and snack bars which i got from clicks, it does tatse nice and effective in a way that i dont get really hungry but i think consistency and discipline is the key which i am not really good at, because im easily tempted with rice and home cooked food??
