Immune-boosting smoothie recipe

Smoothie recipeJuicing your raw fruit and veg is a great way to meet your daily quota, and helps boost your immune system during the winter months. Souping up your regular veggie juice with immune-boosting nutrients will fend off colds and flus and help you recover quicker from winter ailments.

Super C Vegetable Juice
3 baby marrows
1.5 yellow peppers
1 cup cucumber
1.5 cups spinach
1 cup broccoli
4 sticks celery
1 square inch ginger
0.5 green chilli, deseeded
2 apples
Handful strawberries

Put through your juicer, refrigerate and enjoy. Keeping your ingredients in the fridge beforehand means you’ll have a cold drink to enjoy instantly.

Yellow peppers beat green and red ones with the highest content of vitamin C. Strawberries and spinach are also excellent sources of the nutrient, far surpassing the vitamin C content found in apples and oranges.
Ginger and chilli will add a slight – but not unpleasant – kick to your veggie juice, and a nutritional one as well. Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory, rich in vitamins and minerals, and is a great digestive aid as well. Chilli adds another punch of vitamin C, and will help clear sinuses from the effects of colds and flus.

Oat and Fruit Power Smoothie
1 cup strawberries
1 banana
¼ cup raw almonds
½ cup rolled oats
1 cup fat-free plain Greek yoghurt
1 teaspoon honey
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ cup fat-free milk
5 ice blocks

Blend the ingredients together and enjoy.

Almonds and yoghurt provide natural proteins; almonds are also a good source of healthy fats, whilst the yoghurt provides probiotics – very important during the winter season.
Honey is a powerful antibacterial agent, and cinnamon can dramatically lower blood pressure. Together, they will also add a comforting warmness to your smoothie, ideal for a chilly winter morning.

    The veggie smoothie is a bit too intense for me. What I do though is always add a small handful of broccoli or spinach in my fruit smoothies, that way I’m getting the goodness of the greens but it doesn’t affect the taste of the fruits.

    Hi, I must say I was a bit suspicious about your “super c vegetable juice” but I tried it anyway… Luckily I had all of the ingredients… Not like its difficult to find… And then, when I took the first sip of the juice my taste buds tingled and my mouth had a burst of flavor, yet it was refreshing and energizing. It’s amazing how the celery complements the baby marrows… Delish!!! Thanx for your yummy recipe.
