The Firm: a follow-up

Wednesday, 5 October 2011

When our Joburg correspondent, Penny Formo, got panicky about turning 30, she turned to The Firm Slimming and Health Clinic for help in losing some weight. If you haven’t read the first part of her story, you can go here to catch up The Firm review.

Firm body, slim, diet

So, my 10 weeks at The Firm were challenging at times but mostly, the diet was great and dedicating 30 minutes of my time there, three days a week, also became manageable in the end. The diet was tricky in the beginning while my tummy was getting used to the smaller portions, but when you become used to it, you realise how much extra energy you have – it’s absolutely fabulous!

It really is a good idea for sensible weight loss and although I started to shake at the end – and by that, I mean I had the odd cake, wine and other naughty stuff, I managed to lose 6kg and just over 30cm. I now fit into a size 10 (and occasionally, excitingly, a size 8) – and I used to be a 12 so I am super chuffed.

eat healthy

I lost quite a bit in the beginning, when I was sticking to the diet religiously. I followed it exactly and it worked like an absolute charm. It was about 5 weeks in that my lack of self-control got the better of me.

I got engaged last week so I decided to sign up for a further six months, just so that I can be 100 percent sure I will keep the weight off (and also lose the other 4kg to make up the 10 that I originally planned to lose). And I know that with the awesome Firm diet and maintenance, I will lose it and keep it off.

Oh my… I used to go to the firm about 6 years ago and although I managed to stay on the diet for the year I was there I battled to get up to a higher frequency on the machines. It really, really used to hurt me. They put little clothes under the pads as I started to get little blisters and that helped with the blisters but never with the pain! Mondays on the diet used to be hell as it was only a liqui fruit juice box for breakfast and then a cuppa soup lite for lunch and dinner, I stuck it out and lost a bit of weight but was put off by the painful machine. In saying all that its been 6 years and I am getting married in April so i might give it ago again and add it to the running 4 times a week and aqua aerobics twice a week… Ahhh all to be thin for our weddings right?!?!? x

Start with discipline no need going to extreme measures and not being able to maintain the standard. small simple changes everyday and you’ll get there one step at a time and it will become a lifestyle.

Its good to know that they can really help you in loosing weight, but I guess you must be diciplened as well to get the results you want. I’m blessed with a very fast metabolism, so I’m good for now, when it starts to slow down I will know where to go.

I am tempted! I need to loose weight so badly after giving birth. But i gotta set myself first, there’s a lot of discipline involved aside from the motivation. Otherwise its another waste of money.
