Ever since moving from the small dorp of PE to the bustling hub of Jozi, I have indulged a little bit too much in the proverbial ‘good life’, thus putting on about 4000kg! As I’m entering my 30’s later this year, I feel excited, yet a little uneasy about it, so I’ve decided to use this birthday as a goal to lose weight.
I drive past a building in 11th Street, Parkmore, every day on my way to work, with a navy and white sign on its wall. The Firm, it reads.
A few weeks back, I decided to Google it and discovered that it’s a Slimming and Health Clinic that’s offering fabulous winter specials. I then opted to take the plunge, reign in my shortage of will power and get on the diet wagon.
Upon receipt of payment and the signing of a contract, one of the owners of the Sandton branch, Kelli, escorted me through to a treatment room where I was asked to undress so that I could be weighed and measured. The thought of this made me shiver as winter has not been kind to us in Jozi. Fortunately, each room has been fitted with an aircon, so they’re deliciously warm and cosy. After sizing me up, I was then given my new diet as well as a welcome note, an article on the importance of water and a shopping list. I also settled on a goal weight and officially declared that I want to lose a total of 10kgs in the ten weeks that I plan to spend at The Firm. This is possible, provided I stick to my side of the bargain as the eating plan I’m now on was created by dieticians. The Firm says it’s ‘balanced and offers all the correct nutrients that are required daily to sustain perfect health and energy’. Sounds great…
Aside from the diet, which, when followed accurately, aids in weight loss, the package that you receive from The Firm includes slimming treatments that occur three times a week for 30 minutes. These involve receiving electrotherapy that’s assisted by infrared lights that assist in he breakdown of cellulite – a swear word in any woman’s vocab.
For my first treatment, I was told to lie face down on the bed in one of the rooms and was ‘padded up’ by Kelli. Twenty four electropads were stuck to my body with Velcro straps; eight on my bottom area, eight on the tummy and eight on my thighs and knees. When they’re turned on, they emit electrical currents that cause your muscles to contract and relax at different intervals. It doesn’t hurt one bit and actually feels weirdly soothing. I love my sessions as I’m able to relax before work and read my book.?
I’m now in my third week of treatment and am loving the fact that my energy levels are high and I feel fabulous! The first few days of the diet were super challenging as I had to get used to the smaller portions, but now it’s lekker. I love that my jeans are feeling loose and my tummy is getting flatter by the day! So, on I go to get through the next seven weeks and then I’ll be sure to give you my final results at the end. Wish me good luck… plus the will power and the strength to say not to chocolate!
