How does running with ropes, jumping on boxes and swinging kettle bells sound? Like fun, right? Well we found a playground that offers just this and it’s called Switch – The Playground – powered by Steve Uria.
Steve is a conceptual athlete and has been in the fitness industry for three decades. He’s trained celebrity clients like Charles Barkley, Jamal Lewis and Oscar de la Hoya, to name just a few.
An internationally acclaimed fitness instructor, he is the mastermind behind various physical training and fitness programmes including Bootcamp, Blast 900 and SWEAT 1000. If there is one person to get you into action, it’s Steve and his team at the Playground.
We got to test it out and now we’re hooked.
The deal: An hour-long class that starts off with power-flow yoga to “switch on” your body and get you ready for this high intensity programme. It ends off with a stretch session that’s designed to cool you off and avoid injury (trust me – you need it). Each class is different to the next and combines cardio and functional training, boxing, plyometric training and core stability.
You are always on the Playground in pairs – so either with a friend or another Switch player. You work your way through the “circuit,” switching every two minutes.
The trainers: Only highly trained instructors take the class, and don’t worry, there are trainers on the floor to ensure your form and technique is correct, to achieve optimal results.
The location: The Switch Playground can be found at 186 Bree Street, Cape Town. The studio is designed to look like a playground, and uses cutting edge equipment and awesome lighting (you really do feel like a kid again).
