Train your brain to be more positive

Train your brainFeeling negative and having no motivation to face a new day of exercising, eating healthy, going to work, running the household and seeing people? Then it is time to start changing your mind. Being and feeling negative will rob you of your energy which can impact your life, wellbeing and beauty. Negative thoughts can consume up to a whopping 25% of our energy. This means we are wasting energy that could be used more effectively to get us to where we want to be in life!

We have more than 400 000 thoughts a day. If most of these are negative, you will automatically feel negative. Our thoughts change into actions, which change into belief systems and habits. It is thus critical to train our brains to be and think more positively.

6 easy steps to train your brain to be positive:

Focus on the positive aspects of your day before falling asleep
When you focus on positive events, you will fall asleep with positivity, having a better night’s rest (plus you’ll wake up happier too!).

Start the day by visualising your ideal day
You will be positive and refreshed. Remember that many people often focus on the negative events of the day which makes them feel down. If you visualise your day and work out how you want it to go, you will be able to focus on positive events.

Be grateful for what you have
Every time you brush your teeth think of all the things that you are grateful for, the things you have accomplished in your life and everything you can do well. There is always something you can be grateful for, even if it is small. Make a list and repeat it in your mind every day. You will see how your list grows.

Positive re-affirmations
Make sure that you keep re-affirming your strengths. If you are in a stressful situation, talk yourself through the situation with positive affirmations, such as “I can do this,” “I will find a solution to this problem,” “I will stay calm and manage the situation well.” Staying calm and positive inhibits cortisol (your stress hormone) production, helping you to cope better and stay in control.

Be aware of negative thought patterns
Being more aware of your thoughts will help to eliminate negative thoughts that creep up subconsciously. Tell yourself that you will not allow negative thoughts to come in. It may help to visualise a protective shield around you. Your negative thoughts must be changed into positive thoughts. Re-affirm what you have already managed to do, your good characteristics and your strengths.

Make it a routine
Practise these steps every day – after all, it is brain training. It will become easier and easier to think positively. With time, it will become a part of your belief system because your brain will have created a new pathway for it.

Being positive does not come naturally for all of us, but with conscious effort we can change that. A positive mind will allow you to feel positive feelings, to attract other people who are positive, and to reach your goals.

I really think this is possible, we are in-control of our own lives and should be positive about it not negative. Don’t let others affect your life and give back only Positive energy to the universe

    great tips for positivity!
Just wanted to point out that if you are suffering from terribly negative thoughts, you may be suffering from depression which may worsen if you try to “be positive” when what you actually need is therapy and/or medication.
Sometimes it’s a chemical imbalance in our bodies that makes us “negative” and no amount of affirmations etc will help change that.

I find that when I’m a bit down, I just go onto Pinterest and look at cute animals and humorous pins – that helps a bit. The long term fix would be to evaluate the factors that bring you down and work them out.

Very true – having a positive attitude (which some days takes more work than others) helps you to cope much better with whatever the day (and other people) can throw at you! I always try to turn a grim day or situation around and stubbornly refuse to give in to depressive thoughts – it DOES work!
