If I ran a cosmetic empire (Cindy co-owns the company that imports Essence and Catrice cosmetics, amongst other things), I’d trot through the storeroom every couple of months and fill a duffel bag with anything and everything that looks new and exciting.
But if Cindy didn’t have that privilege, here’s how I would recreate her look…
Use a volumising shampoo like L’Oreal Volume Collagen Texturising Shampoo, R37 for 200ml, and avoid conditioner on the roots. Blow-dry hair with a large brush, and if extra volume is still needed, pop in a couple of Denman Self Grip Rollers, R69 for three. Finishing off by wrapping a couple of pieces of the ends around a curling tong, and separate curls with your fingers afterward for a casual look. And of course, one or two pink Great Lengths extensions, R100 for one.
We can’t help but admire Cindy’s seemingly flawless complexion, yet when you see her up close (and I have), there’s no caked layers of foundation in sight. Make-up has become much smarter in recent years, so be sure to make the most of it. Dab corrective concealer where you need it (green neutralises red, yellow neutralises blue/dark circles, orange neutralises brown scars/pigmentation marks), and follow with a light reflecting foundation. Whether you splurge on YSL Perfect touch Radiant Brush Foundation, R540 or save with a foundation from Maybelline’s Dream range, R160 each, make sure that the shade blends in with your face as well as your neck. Sweep Essence Bronzing Powder no 2, R40, over your cheeks, temples and forehead, and dust the excess on the brush on your collarbones.
Line your upper lashes and lower waterline with a black, dark brown or navy blue Catrice Precision Eye Pencil, R30 each. Coat lashes in lashings of your favourite lengthening & volumising mascara. Fill in any sparse spots in your eyebrows with a shadow powder identical to your natural hair colour, and smooth a wax/gel over to keep them in place. Add some highlighter just below the arch to accentuate the shape. Newly launched Gosh cosmetics has an all-rounder Brow Kit, R155, with three brow colours, brow wax and applicators. Skip the eye shadow for this look, and just sweep a touch of bronzer over your lids (remember you already have highlighter to accentuate your brow arch and liner and mascara to compliment your eye shape and colour).
Dare to show your softer side with muted peachy-coral lips. You’ll have to experiment, because the wrong shade can make you look pretty pasty. Products to try: Gosh Intense Lip Colour in Pink Beige, R130, or Cream Lipstick from Inglot in shade 100 or 106, R129 each.
