Actress Hayden Panettiere is a keen animal rights activist, so much so she even had a warrant out for her arrest in Japan after she jumped into the ocean to protest against whale and dolphin hunting. She’s also a vegetarian and isn’t shy to be snapped popping into the grocery store with recycled shopping bags. Here’s how to copy her look using an array of ‘green’ products that are either eco-friendly, organic or made using all natural ingredients.
Creating Hayden’s relaxed-looking up-do is easy. First wash and condition your hair using Nature’s Gate Awapuhi Volumising (organic) Shampoo and Conditioner, R50 each, exclusive to Wellness Warehouse. After towel-drying, apply a golf-ball sized amount of mousse to your roots and blow dry your hair upside down to create a little volume. We like Giovanni Cosmetics Natural Mousse Air-Turbo Charged Hair Styling Foam, R154, as it can build hair to amazing heights and is enriched with certified organic botanicals. When you’re done, use your fingers to gently pull your hair back into either a loose chignon or bun.
To fake a glowing complexion, after you’ve applied your moisturiser, dot a little bronzing fluid on your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin then use a foundation sponge to blend it into your skin. (Dr. Hauschka Bronzing Fluid, R350, is a good one to try; it uses organic natural ingredients that have been sustainably sourced.) Next, sweep a powder bronzer like The Body Shop Baked-To-Last Bronzer, R170, across your forehead and to the apples of your cheeks; places where the sun would naturally hit your face. Finish up by hiding any dark under eye circles and blemishes with a little medium-weight concealer, something like ZAO Concealer Stick, R189. (ZAO is a European 100% natural make-up range using organic active ingredients that’s now available in South Africa. To find a list of stockists, pop on over here.
Line your top lash line using a black liquid eyeliner like mineral-infused Jane Iredale The Liquid Eyeliner in Black, R264, before lining your inner rims with a soft pencil eyeliner, also in black. Next, apply a shimmering taupe-coloured eye shadow, something like The Body Shop Eye Shadow Single in Conker, R99, to your entire eyelid extending it a little above your crease before blending a little more of it across your lower lash lines. To finish, add a few slicks of a volumising mascara like Physician’s Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash Mascara in Ultra Black, R145, exclusive to Dis-Chem.
Make your cheek bones pop with a few sweeps of a shimmering apricot-coloured blush. A good match to what Hayden’s wearing would be something like 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Blush in Peach, R237.60, exclusive to Pure Skin.
To complete your look, line your lips with a nude-coloured lip pencil and colour them in by dabbing on a little rose-coloured lip stain. Next, slick on a little clear lip balm, something like organic Kiss My Face Lip Balm with SPF 15 in Strawberry, R40, exclusive to Wellness Warehouse.
