This singer, songwriter, dancer and TV personality knows a thing or two about make-up. Become your own Destiny’s Child by recreating Kelly’s look.
Fringes are big part of 2012 and Kelly’s got the perfect one here. Visit your hairdresser if you’re thinking of cutting a fringe; don’t attempt it yourself as it could lead to disaster. Ask for a grown-out side fringe, these are always easier to handle. To create the loose curls, first blow-dry your hair downwards, you don’t want to cause any root lift. (Also, always start with your fringe.) Once dry, use a curling tong and gently wrap pieces of your hair around the barrel. Hold for a few seconds to create desired curl, and don’t forget about the back of your head too. Seal it all in with a finishing spray like ghd’s Curl Hold Spray, R195.
For a matte finish, start by prepping your skin with a primer like Almay’s Smart Shade Perfect & Correct Primer, R135. It will even out your skin tone and allow for your foundation to appear smooth and flawless as well as stop your skin from looking too shiny. Next, use a medium to full coverage foundation. We recommend a cream to powder foundation like the Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Sponge-On Cream Foundation, R230. Add colour to your cheeks by applying blush onto the apples. We love the Rimmel Mono Blush, R63, but for that all over golden glow Avon’s Glow Bronzing Pearls, R139,95 ,will do the trick. You can add a light dusting of translucent powder to finish and set everything.
The eyes are the main focus of this look and by perfecting this you’ll be on your way to being your own Destiny’s Child star. For this, though, you’re going to need some serious colour and a steady hand. Start off with a thick black liner on your top lid and make sure to go as close to the lash line as possible. Then continue this line, but keeping it very thin, line your bottom lash line to finish off your eye. Essence’s gel liner, R40, is great at creating a silky smooth line. Next, layer a copper eye shadow onto your eyelid and on top of that, just before your brow bone, dust a lighter shade that will highlight the area. Try Almay Intense I-Colour Shimmer-i Kits, R165. Your second last step is applying a green shadow like Inglot’s AMC Pure Pigment Eye Shadow #70, R189, just under your bottom lash line. Blend it to create a smooth look. Lastly give your lashes a curl with an eyelash curler and then finish them off with two coats of mascara like the Accessorize Flutter Curl Mascara, R94.99.
Tip: If you don’t have long lashes and want a bit more of a dramatic look, use false eyelashes.
Keep your lips simple and let the attention remain on your eye area. You don’t want to over do it so a slight shine to your lip is all you need. A nude lipgloss we’ll recommend is Catrice’s Juri is GAGArin, R49,95.
