Between heading up her own fashion company, House of Harlow, and being a new mom, Miss Richie’s got her hands full. Still, she doesn’t seem to set foot out the house without looking naturally glamorous. Here’s how to copy her sixties-inspired look.
Want relaxed-looking curls like Nicole? Ironically, if your hair’s too curly to begin with, you’re going to have to first straighten it. To learn how, check out our ‘Get the look Zoe Saldana’ story.
Once that’s sorted out, give your hair a good spritz with something like ghd Style Heat Protecting spray, R180, while it’s still wet and then blow dry it straight with your hair drier. Blow drying or waiting for your hair to air dry is important as using very hot styling tools like tongs or a flat iron on wet hair can damage it. All dry? Reach for a curling tong and wrap sections of your hair around its barrel, holding each for a few seconds until the curl ‘takes’.
When you’re done, gently brush out your locks to loosen up your curls and part your hair in the middle. To give your new style a bit of shine and keep the dreaded frizzes at bay give it another light misting of a silicone-infused treatment, something like Clicks Hair Rescue Anti-frizz spray, R35.
Face: To create an even, matte-looking complexion, first use a bit of concealer under your eyes and wherever else is necessary. Next, use a large powder brush to apply a bit of powder foundation to your T-section. We like The Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals compact foundation, R205. It contains cold pressed extra virgin organic olive oil to help keep your skin hydrated, but creates a matte-looking finish. It’s also got an SPF of 15 and is available in shades for darker skin tones.
Eyes: Apply a little copper-coloured eye shadow to your entire eyelid extending it a little above your crease and then sweep outwards to create a slightly winged-effect. Further emphasise the cat eye effect with a black liquid eye liner on the top eyelid and then finish up with a few slicks of mascara. Clarins Instant Definition mascara, R205, would be a good bet as it delivers both volume and length.
Cheeks: Breathe a little life into your complexion with a gentle sweep of rose-coloured blush on your cheek bones. To keep things fresh-looking, try a cream blush. This’ll create a natural-looking, sheer glow that will last all day. A good match to what Nicole’s wearing would be coloured blush, something like Bloom’s Belle du Jour Cream Blush Duo, R205. It’s enriched with evening primrose and lavender oil and comes with an ‘illuminating’ shade that you can use as a highlighter.
Lips: To complete your look, apply a few slicks of a super shiny coral-coloured lip gloss. A good match to what Nicole’s wearing would be Revlon ColorBurst lipgloss in Papaya, R100.
