Sofia Vergara knows how to work the red carpet and recently showed off her enviably long glossy hair with a naturally glam make-up look at the Golden Globes. Want to copy her not-so-high-maintenance yet attention-grabbing style? With the right products it’s all too easy…
If your hair isn’t poker straight to begin with, you’ve got a few options to sort that out. One is to spritz your locks with a heat protection spray and then break out the flat irons, straightening out your mane from root to tip. Another easy, more long-term solution? Try a semi-permanent hair straightening kit like Scott Cornwall Str8 Forward, R160. Using the product requires a little dedication in that it takes at least two hours to apply and then afterwards you can’t wash your hair or tie it up for two days while the chemicals work their magic. Still, you can use something like TRESemme INSTANTREFRESH, Dry Shampoo, R62, and keep your ’do in shape with a flat iron during the waiting period. Once you’re done, you can enjoy super straight glossy-looking hair just like Sofia for up to three months! To add a nice dose of shine, run a serum like Moroccan Oil treatment, R315, through your tresses. It contains lots of silicone to add shine and mega-moisturising argan oil to nourish.
Face: To create a matte yet radiant-looking complexion opt for a light diffusing foundation. We like Clarins Everlasting foundation compact with SPF15, R360. Next, set the look by giving your T-section a light dusting with a mattifying powder.
Eyes: ‘Smoky eyes’ doesn’t have to mean sooty grey. To create a look that’s just as sexy but a little more warm, line your upper eyelids with a long-lasting black eye liner. We are impressed by L.A. Girl endless eyeliner, R39.95. Next, use a metallic bronze eye shadow over your entire lid and sweep it outwards and upwards at the outer corner of each eye. The Body Shop’s Baked-to-Last eye shadow in Copper, R120, is a fusion of powder and pearl pigments to offer long-lasting wear and a sexy shimmery finish. Last but not least, apply several generous slicks of black volumising mascara, something like Benefit ‘They’re Real’ Beyond mascara, R160.
Cheeks: Make your cheek bones pop with colour by applying a little blush to just the apples of your cheeks. Finding them is simple; all you have to do is smile. The parts of your cheek that pop up are where your blush brush should first meet your skin. To colour these in, make quick tight circular motions with your brush and then sweep out and upwards. Colourwise, Sofia’s wearing a slightly wine-coloured rose, something like Bourjois ‘little round pot’ blush in Lilas d’Or, R100.
Lips: Finish up the look with longwearing sheer plum-coloured lippie like Smashbox Be Legendary lipstick in Fig, R160, for its great colour payoff and antioxidant infused formula.
