Get the look: Zizo BedaThis fresh-faced former Miss Teen SA is the current ambassador for Garnier SA and a journalism student. We take a look at recreating her fresh, barely-there make-up look.

Hair

When caring for ethnic hair that is worn naturally, treatment products are much more important than styling aids. We recently tested some Dr Miracle’s treatment products, and were very happy with the outcome: the 2in1 Shampoo, R60, Strengthening Crème, R60 and Restorative Treatment Packet, R45, all left hair soft, shiny and healthy-looking. A double headband like the one pictured looks fun and flirty, while keeping hair out of the face in summer heat – you can pick these up at your nearest Clicks store.

Complexion

If you only need light coverage, try Garnier BB Cream, R80 or Essence Pure Skin Natural Cover Moisturiser, R29.95. If you want fuller coverage, Shiseido recently expanded their foundation ranges to include various shades for dark skins in both liquid and compact formulations, priced from R440 to R490. Liven up the cheeks with a touch of blush like YSL Blush Radiance, R495 (No 5 would be perfect for this skin tone). Slap a broad, toothy smile on your face, look in the mirror, and apply it on the actual apples of your cheeks with a slight upward, outward motion. Be sure to use a Kabuki or medium sized blusher brush, and not a too-small brush that will leave you with streaky or patchy areas. Add a touch of highlighter on the tip of the nose, chin, in the cupids bow and above the cheekbones for added radiance.

Eyes

Keep the eyes soft with a neutral taupe shade from the lash line to the crease, and lighten them up with a pearly shade in the inner corners of both the upper and lower lid. Lastly, add a neutral beige shadow to the rest of the lid, with a slightly lighter matte shade (but not a highlighter) all the way to the brow bone. Line the upper lash line and lower waterline with a medium brown pencil, and use a light hand when it comes to mascara. Brows can be filled in with a powder and set with a wax – the GOSH Eyebrow Kit, R155, is a definite winner for this.

Lips

A cerise pink or fuchsia gloss is all you need. Nice glosses to try are GOSH Light & Shine Lip Glaze in Raspberry, R140 and Essence Marble Mania in Mix n Mauve, R30.
