While some, like all big-brand fragrance, aren’t ever going to become classics, others are true perfume gems that you’ll spray again and again. Want to find a newbie? Here are a few of our favourite famous fragrances of the moment.
Jennifer Aniston by Jennifer Aniston (R495 for 50ml)
Our best friend knows a thing or two about how to create a fragrance to fall in love with. All she did in deciding on the recipe for her first ever scent was to mix her best and earliest scent memories into a bottle. It’s inspired by her memories of summer days at the beach and evenings in California infused with the scent of gorgeous flowers.
The notes: Because sparkling notes are traditionally at the top of perfumes, you’ll find citrus and rose water when you first spray and smell the scent. At the heart of the fragrance is jasmine, wild violets and Amazon lily. And the base is warm, with sensual musk, golden amber and sandalwood making up a perfect ending.
Someday by Justin Bieber (R525 for 100ml)
It had to happen; the Biebs has put his baby-face, floppy-hair cuteness to a perfume. And before you write it off as just ‘something for your little sister for Christmas’, let us implore you to take a whiff with us. ‘I wanted to create a fragrance for my female fans that I can’t get enough of… that I want to get next to and I can’t stay away from,’ says Justin. Oh, and did we mention that all the net profits are going straight to charity? Good on ‘ya Biebs!
The notes: Housed in a rather sweet heart-capped bottle, this juice is deliciously sweet and fruity at first and then evolves into a bouquet of fresh and creamy florals. Think a fruit basket of mandarin, William pear and wild berries at the top with jasmine, waterlily, creamy florals and coconut orchid making up the middle notes. And for dry-down, it’s all classic warmth and creaminess in the form of a mix of sandalwood, vanilla and soft musk.
Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift (R525 for 100ml)
In the words of this cutie songstress, ‘Wearing perfume is such a unique way to create memories. Like songs, a scent can take you back and allow you to relive a moment in time.’ We couldn’t agree more with you Taylor! And like with all of her songs, her fragrance is completely personal – she even came up with the name. ‘I wrote the lyric, “I’m wonderstruck, blushing all the way home,” for the song Enchanted about the first time you meet someone. A fragrance can help shape someone’s first impression and memory of you. It’s exciting to think that Wonderstruck will play a role in creating some of those memories.’ Will it create sweetly smelling memories for you? Read on…
The notes: Think a yummy cocktail of freesia, apple blossom and raspberry mixed with vanilla, honeysuckle and white hibiscus. Notes of golden amber and sandalwood and peach complete Taylor’s debut perfume.
Meow by Katy Perry (R465 for 50ml)
Katy Perry developed her second fragrance, Meow, while on her world tour California Dreams. Its soothing qualities helped Katy juggle different time zones, cultures and the stresses of being on the road for extended periods of time.
The notes: The fruity top notes of tangerine, pear, gardenia and jasmine develop into the mild scents of honeysuckle, lily of the valley and orange blossom, while the heart notes create a cocoon of creamy vanilla, musk amber and sandalwood.
Viva by Fergie (R320 for 50ml)
Powerful yet seductive. That explains songstress Fergie perfectly. It also happens to explain her new (and third) fragrance as well. Developed by the team at Avon, Viva embodies Fergie’s spirit – powerful, seductive and living life by her own rules.
The notes: The fragrance opens with green notes of bergamot before blending into a seductive combination of lavender, mint and narcissus, and closing with a woody base of vetiver and white musk.
