We’ve been following all the excitement around the Autumn/Winter 2017 Fashion Weeks in New York, London and Milan. Here are the top trends in hair and make-up that you need to know about for the upcoming season. A few we can totally get behind, and some we’ll leave for the runway!
Hair is having its moment
A change is as good as a holiday, so why not try a new hairstyle? In NY, it was all about being above the shoulders, whether in a bob, a bowl or a boy cut. We saw strict, structural centre partings in London at Roksanda and Erdem, as well as effortless side slung ponytails with deep side partings at Burberry and J.W Anderson. If you’re still aching for an 80s revival, you’ll be happy to know that crimping is cool again, thanks to Ports 1961 and Isa Arfen. Milan offered up soft, loose waves and plaits at Alberta Ferretti and Max Mara. Just so romantic. And last but not least, blue dyed hair is still hot, as seen at Phoebe English, Baja East and Marc Jacobs in NY.
Hair accessories are everything
In NY, chic, black ribbons at Tory Burch and Marchesa set a new trend which cropped up in London too, at Emilia Wickstead, and in the form of velvet hair bows at Temperley London. For a less understated look, we loved the bold fur-and-pearl-studded headbands at Altuzarra, the overdose of baubles at Toga and the real flowers at Taka Naka, all in the hair of course.
Eyes are colourful
Whether you prefer bold and graphic or soft and demure, there’s a look for you. We were fascinated by the strong strips of green, orange and cobalt blue at Prabal Gurung in NY and Versus Versace in London, and coveted the soft lavenders and muted greys at Victoria Beckham and Ashley Williams. In Milan, the graphic liner at Wunderkind, in a multitude of colours, struck our fancy too.
Lips are not lined
When Topshop Unique and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi in London sent their models out with smudged and stained lips as if they’d just been kissed, it became an instant hit, cropping up at Temperley London and Roland Mouret too. Think of the look as this: a blurred stain of bright lip colour, as if you’ve just come home from a big night on the town.
Trends that will never die
A bold, red lip and fresh, dewy bare-faced make-up.
