We chatted exclusively to Adeola Ariyo, the new brand ambassador for Elizabeth Arden Africa.
We know you were born in Nigeria and have been a model since you were 14. How did you first get into the modeling world?
I was scouted in London when I was 13 years old; I was in Top Shop with my dad. They started taking Polaroid’s of me and that’s where it kind of started.
How did you feel when Elizabeth Arden approached you to represent their brand in Africa?
I was shocked at first. It took me a while to realize – I had to grasp everything that was going on. This is not just a shoot, it’s bigger than that. It’s an honour to be part of such a big brand that is known worldwide. It offers women empowerment. It’s a brand I believe in!
What does being the brand ambassador for such an iconic brand entail?
I will be featured in three of their main products. One is Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Nude Makeup SPF 15 which is absolutely amazing.
What other projects are you currently working on?
Nothing. I am totally focused just on this. It’s my priority.
What are some of the highlights of your career?
This is, I am not going to lie. Nothing tops this one!
What does beauty mean to you?
As clichéd as it may sound, beauty comes from within! Being able to make other people feel beautiful is one of the best traits. If you have a beautiful soul you attract people to you. It comes from inside.
What is your favourite product from the Elizabeth Arden range?
I have a few. One being the Elizabeth Arden Skin Illuminating Night Capsules. After a long day and after you have done all your steps, it is amazing. It gets my skin perfect for the next day.
We know Elizabeth Arden has recently introduced five new darker shades of foundation into their range. What shade do you wear and how do you find the feel?
I use Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Nude Makeup SPF 15 in Nude Mahogany and a mineral powder in shade 11. It gives me a matt look, perfect for my skin tone. It was always hard to find the correct shades but not anymore cause I have Elizabeth Arden.
You are a beauty icon to many, who was your beauty icon when you were growing up?
When I grew up I was the biggest tomboy. I knew nothing about beauty. My dad used to chase me from the sun; I had no idea how bad it was for you. I looked up to my mom though and copied her.
Do you have any beauty advice that you have always lived by that you can share with our readers?
Yes. I live for cleaning my face every night. I never used to but it took me a while to get into a routine. Remove all your make-up and wash your face – let your skin breathe. Think of all the environmental fumes and how harsh it is on you skin.
