Budget beauty buys

Just because you’re willing to suffer for beauty, doesn’t mean your wallet should too. While you look the other way when splurging on your favourite products, it might be beneficial to experiment with a few more cost-effective basics for the rest of your essentials. Here are some of our favourite budget beauty buys, under R109,95!

Perfect pout

With more than 20 shades to choose from, finding your go-to hue is easy! L.A Girl Flat Velvet Lipstick, R49,95, is rich in pigments and moisture. This lippie stays on long and leaves lips feeling moisturised and looking great. We love all the fun colours and the fact that it’s so cheap allows you to experiment with many shades.

Create that sought-after dewy look with L.A Girl Velvet Blush Stick, R49,95. The Glimmer blush has a pink hue with specs of gold, for an all-round fresh-faced look. It can be used as a blush or highlighter. Just pop it into your bag and apply when you want to get glowing and freshen up throughout the day. The luxurious formula blends well and you’d never guess it’s under R50!

Nailed it

Great for a minimalistic look, the essence I Heart Trends Nude Edition, R39,95, is filled with pretty pinks, bronze and soft beige tones. It applies easily with a few strokes, looks beautifully glossy, and actually stays on long.

Spritz on the go

We often look for that mid-day pick-me-up or just a simple cost-effective fragrance. The Hoity Toity Lola Jour Body Spray, R26,95, is a delicate yet sultry scent that opens with a vibrant mandarin note and settles into a fresh, musky base. Keep it in your handbag and spritz on when you want to smell fresh without breaking the bank.

Smize on the prize

Get pretty eyes without the high price. The long-lasting Rimmel 100% Waterproof Mascara, R82,95, may not volumise, but it gives you defined, natural-looking lashes without those dreaded clumps. This mascara actually stays on long and needs a good makeup remover to remove and prevent panda eyes.

An eyeliner that actually stays on? Wet n Wild H20 Proof Liquid Eyeliner, R99,95, is super long-wear. Honestly, you might even struggle to get it off. But hey, yesterday’s eyeliner is today’s smokey eye  – depending on your outlook on life.

Back to basics

Every day is a pamper day with this nourishing cream bar. The Dove Purely Pampering Coconut Milk Beauty Cream Bar, R12, has the classic Dove formula with ¼ moisturising cream. It’s mild enough to use on your face and body and makes bathtime a treat. We love that it’s packed with coconut milk and jasmine scents.

The most expensive item on our list, Nivea Q10 Goodbye Cellulite Firming Gel-Cream, R109,95, is still uber cheap compared to other firming products on the market. It works well and we love the cooling effect and delicious scent in the air after applying it.

A firm favourite, Dove Body Lotion Summer Glow, R38,99, builds a gradual tan and gives you soft and glowing skin. We love that we get to enjoy a sun-kissed look all year-round – without having to try sun tanning. Let’s not get into the dark truth about relying on the sun to tan, we’ll just focus on how great this product is.

Don’t forget about skin care! Draw out impurities and cleanse your skin with this well-loved product, Garnier Micellar Oil-infused Cleansing Water, R84,95. The Garnier Micellar Oil-infused Cleansing Water can be used as a face wash, make-up remover and all-round moisturiser. Cleansing water or magical elixir?

The Micellar Water by Garnier is my fave. I have sensitive skin that breaks out real quick and this product does not create any pimples at all!! I love it. It takes about 3 cotton swabs to clean my face and the bottle lasts for months! It’s also cheap and only costs R 80 compared to other brands.

Anything that LA girl does is great. Mostly because it is quality budget make-up which is always great. I have their matte lipstick shade in a deeper red and it lasts quite a while for a matte.

The L.A. Girl Flat Velvet Lipstick was my first dive into the the brand. To be honest, it really impressed me as my lips didn’t feel all dry and flaky and the lipstick lasted so long without having a weird fade.

I have many colours of the L.A Girl Flat Velvet Lipsticks, I absolutely love them! It’s light-weight, sometimes I even forget I’m wearing lipstick! It’s long-lasting as well, with many beautiful shades to choose from. Also, if you are looking for a dupe for a MAC BRAVE then try the shade SNUGGLE BY L.A Girl Flat Velvet Lipstick
