Fans of bold colour, retro packaging and matte finishes rejoice, the Lancôme Matte Shaker has landed. Last year the beauty brand launched Juicy Shakers, our go-to lip gloss that made its debut in eight fruity, fun colours in lava-lamp inspired packaging. Now they’ve taken the shake-to-blend formula to new levels. You’ll recognise the packaging, but it’s what’s inside that’ll blow you away. One thing is for sure, the Matte Shaker is a lipstick like no other. The unique water-in-oil formula delivers perfect application and wears comfortably without drying out your lips! Just shake to soak the applicator with formula, apply the cushion directly onto lips to build the saturated colour… then wait for it to dry down to a lightweight, comfortable matte finish. No caking, flaking or bleeding off the lip line.
So how does the formula work? Well, it’s based on Ultra Thin Film (UTF) technology, which is inspired by the texture of foundation. This is what makes this liquid lipstick finer – and together with the moisturising addition of vitamin E, makes it a pleasure to use.
With its two star shades, Pink Power (378) and Magic Orange (186) leading the way, Matte Shaker is also available in five other colours: Beige Vintage (270), Energy Peach (272), Red’y in 5 (189), Kiss Me Cherie (374) and Yummy Pink (379).
They’re available at all Lancôme counters in Edgars, Red Square, Stuttafords, Woolworths, Truworths and Foschini, as well as online with a recommended price of R315 each.
Look 1: French Kiss
The effect: Gradient Lips
The technique: Go from Pink Power (Matte Shaker 378) to Magic Orange (Matte Shaker 186) for the perfect sunset-inspired look. For this, apply your Matte Shaker lipstick in two stages (half and half for each shade). Soften the gradient by applying Red’Y in 5 in the centre (Matte Shaker 189) of the lips, then tapping them with your fingertips to create a smudgy effect.
Look 2: Can’t choose between you two / Out of greed
The effect: Duo Lips
The technique: Apply a layer of Red’Y in 5 (Matte Shaker 189) to the top lip, then the Yummy Pink to the bottom lip (Matte Shaker 379), for a dual colour look.
Look 3: Party time! / Fiesta
The effect: Multicolour Lips
The technique: Go for a step-by-step approach. For the top lip, graduate the colour from Yummy Pink (Matte Shaker 379) to Energy Peach (Matte Shaker 272), finishing with Beige Vintage (Matte Shaker 270). Apply the colours one by one from left to right, each one to a third of the lip, then tap the area where the colours join up with your fingertips, to soften the transitions. Repeat the process for the bottom lip, graduating the Matte Shaker from Kiss Me Chérie (378) to Magic Orange (186), via Yummy Pink (379)
