Coming up with names for make-up must be great fun. When a parcel from theBalm arrived, we had to chuckle. Loved the look instantly – who won’t like packaging with retro images and quirky names that make you wonder what genius dreamt that up?
This sassy cosmetic brand recently entered the local market in collaboration with Stuttafords. ‘Beauty in five minutes’ is the philosophy and theBalm’s multi-purpose products offer quick fixes and wondrous solutions.
Marissa Shipman, founder of theBalm, realised there were a few simple products she needed to help her look and feel glam all the time. If she needed them, other women did, too. She bought 11 books on how to make beauty products and started mixing in her kitchen. “I went make-up crazy,” she says. “In 2004 I formed the company, worked out a budget, hired a chemist and designed a website.” She began integrating anti-ageing ingredients, triple-milled pigments and fabulous scents. And so theBalm was born.
The range features make-up, including lip sticks (R249,95), foundations (R429,95) mascaras (R299,95) and more. Besides Matt(e) Trimony, an eye shadow palette (R599,95) with nine shades for special occasions, we were super impressed with Balm Jovi Rockstar Face Palette (R549,95). It’s the complete multi-tasker with 12 amazing eye shadows, a highlighter, a blush and two lip or cheek products – all in a cute cardboard palette.
You’ll find theBalm’s paraben and cruelty-free products exclusively at selected Stuttafords stores.
We’ll be sharing some of our theBalm goodies with our BeautySouthAfrica Trial Team this month. Check that your profile is complete, so you’ll get the best product for your needs.
