We dare you not to go out and paint your make-up collection red when you catch site of Chanel’s new Le Rouge autumn 2016 collection. Red is the colour of life and death, love and desire and also the inspiration behind the new Chanel range by their global creative make-up and colour designer Lucia Pica.
“I am obsessed with the colour red – I always have been. Red is strong for me and it is also intrinsic to the world of Chanel,” she says. “I really wanted to explore the meaning of colour and what is behind it in the collection. There is an idea of the symbolism of red and a red undertone runs throughout. It is mainly an emotional and abstract response to colour.”
Coco Chanel’s favourite colour was red. Considering that this is the woman who once said: “Mettez du rouge et attaquez” (Put on lipstick and attack), there’s no better way to honour her legacy than by launching a collection infused with various shades of red.
Kristen Stewart does not seem to be in the twilight of her Chanel muse modelling career and is the face of the campaign. She shows off sensual lips and expressive eyes all wrapped with passionate red-hot radiation.
We’re still not sure we could pull off the red eye trend, but as Coco said: In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.
