valentines-day-lipsticks

For years we’ve been putting all focus on the smokey eye for Valentine’s Day, but this year, we’re all about a statement lip. It’s a bit daring for a date night – we know – but it’s going to a) get his attention; b) give you a boost of confidence and c) make you stand out from the crowd. So why not give it a go?

The four shades we recommend to capture your date’s attention are:

Fiery red
The most risky of all the shades, an eye-catching red is extremely sexy. Plus, it shows a lot of confidence. Plus, red is flattering on all complexions, especially very dark and very fair skins. We recommend MAC Lipstick in MAC Red, R195.

Deep pink
If you’re not quite brave enough to go for all-out red, why not opt for a beautiful dark pink instead? It’s feminine and romantic, and works with just about any fashion look you choose. We like Clarins Rouge Eclat Lipstick in Pink Fushia, R270.

Coral
This shade definitely isn’t for everybody, but if you can pull it off, it looks magnificent. Stick to neutral eye make-up if you’re wearing this daring shade, and try find a peach / orange based blusher to match. We recommend Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in Vibrant Mandarin, R114.95.

Classic pink
Nothing beats a soft, classic pink lipstick. Whether you’re fair, medium, dark, or very dark, a soft pink a few shades darker than your natural lip colour will brighten up your complexion, and allow for a classic smokey eye or statement eyeliner. We love Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Candy, R89.95.

The Clarins Rouge Eclat Lipstick in Pink Fushia and the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Candy are my favourite. You can never go wrong with pink lipstick.

Mac relentlessly red goes great with those who are a tab bit shy of a loud red.

I don’t wear lipstick often purely because I really don’t have enough lips, but I would love to pull off the bold blood red lips with subtle make up. I think that when a woman goes so bold she should have loads of mascara and if she needs eyeliner then that should be it, nothing more with those striking lips.

Budget-friendly lippies include those from LA girl. They are just R35 and they have one big selection.

If you’re on a budget, the Wet n Wild lipsticks are perfect dupes for MAC. The colour pays off the same and they’re also long-lasting.

I rarely wear lipstick but for the entire month of April I’m doing the “Red My Lips” campaign. The little problem I have is that I am VERY bold when it comes to my eye makeup, so any tips on what would work with red lipstick?

MAC Red is a great shade, I like to dab it lightly on dry lips and then apply a tiny bit of gloss over it. I personally don’t like it on myself in layers, that’s when I reach for the MAC Prolong Red or Ruby Woo.

I am not a lipstick person at all! But I love a bit of colour here and there and what better place than your own lips to pop! Sexy and confident!

I’ve been trying to make a point of wearing brightly coloured lipsticks at least twice a week now, just to step outside of my comfort zone. I love reds, bright pinks and corals. My first new lipstick this year was actually MAC Impassioned, a vibrant pinky-red.. gorgeous!

Ruby Woo by MAC does it for me. I feel so sexy when I’m wearing it and I think it also goes well with my complexion- this shade really suits me. I get asked a lot about what brand it is. It is the best!

The Clarins, Mac and Rimmel are the nicest colours.. I am not really one for the bright red/orange.

MAC’s trusty “Ruby Woo” is my go to hue for a romantic evening out. But any nude works for me.
