You may not recognise her new surname, Held, but just because local beauty Jo-Ann Strauss got married doesn’t mean she’s slowing down. We caught up with her, and her make-up bag.
What’s keeping you busy right now?
Various things – I’m producing a number of media properties and am now putting together some webisodes for our online presenter search, which we just filmed in Zambia at Royal Chundu with celebrity mentor Bonang Matheba and I. And I just got married ;-)
What’s the one cosmetic item you simply can’t live without?
Black liquid eyeliner!!!
If we were to turf out your make-up bag, what would we find in there?
When not on TV, I’m low maintenance – some mascara (Maybelline or L’Oreal), blusher or bronzer by MAC, a little lip gloss (Juicy Tubes by Lancome or prrrr by MAC) and liquid eyeliner.
And facial skincare? What are your favourite products?
I love Pond’s or Olay – simple moisturisers. And they have to contain SPF!
How do you take care of that bod?
Gym, long walks and eating sensibly. I love food so I won’t stop eating all my favourite fatty dishes, but you have to make sure that you put in some time sweating.
What products do you use on your hair?
I love Sunsilk and when I’m rocking my natural curls, I just leave in the conditioner.
I recently got Beyonce’s Heat in a goodie bag at an event and am loving that at the moment. Usually, I wear Bvlgari’s Omnia – I love their Amethyste – actually all the Omnias from Bvlgari are great.
What nail polish colours are you rocking at the mo?
Right now, a gorgeous plum colour by Sally Hansen. Nails are short and dark – I love winter nail colours.
Who’s in your Little Black Book of Beauty?
My hair guru, Shaughn Adams. His salon is in Observatory (Cape Town), but he always makes a plan to come to my place as I’m running around constantly. He is amazing!
What’s the best beauty advise you’ve ever received or have to give?
Laugh – a smile in your heart radiates! And wear sunscreen and drink water, of course!
