What we say:
I can’t go for very long without applying a lip balm, and as I like to add a bit of colour to my lips for the office, I’ve become obsessed with lip balm sticks that offer colour coverage. I was excited to try this new product from Labello, as I’ve really come to trust and love their products over the years. Firstly, I love the bright packaging – it’s eye-catching and easy to find in my messy handbag.

Secondly, the smell is incredible. So life-like, when I apply it, it tastes like I have just swiped a slice of watermelon across my lips. I think this scent probably won’t be for everybody, but I for one love it.

In addition to nourishing and hydrating properties, this lip balm also offers a subtle pink colour, which I love. It’s just bright enough to see that the lips aren’t 100% natural in colour, yet it’s nowhere near as noticeable as a lipstick. I absolutely love it and for the price, it’s an absolute steal!

  1. For best results apply daily to your lips.

Do you want endless moisture for your lips and sheer yet brilliant colour that works day and night? Fruity Shine Watermelon is the new, exotic way to love your lips: with colored pigments that give long-lasting moisture and watermelon aroma for soft, smooth and endlessly kissable lips.

The innovative formula with Hydra IQ contains watermelon aroma. Labello Fruity Shine Watermelon gives a touch of delicate colour and dresses your lips with a soft shine.

The Labello Watermelon Shine Lip Balm comes in a white and pink colored twist tube. It is easy to open and close the cap of the casing. The cap also closes tightly and there is no chance of it accidently getting opened in the hand bag or purse. The packaging is very handy and can fit in most of the clutches or handbags, or even jeans pockets. I always carry at least one in my handbag, one in the car, one in the bathroom. I can never live without a lip care product. My lips need to be moisturized all the time. During the day I use matte lipsticks and my lips tend to dry out. So it’s important for me to moisturize my lips enough when I am not wearing any lipstick.

This lip balm is pink in color. When applied, it leaves a mild, shimmery pink layer on lips. The color can be boosted a little by applying in layers. The consistency of the lipcare is creamy and spreads easily over the lips. It doesn’t feel sticky or oily. I use this when I am indoors during the day or on Sundays when I don’t step out of the house. It’s perfect for outdoors too. It gives a very subtle look and looks great. I personally prefer lipsticks for outdoors. I love the way my lips look and feel with this great summery lip balm.

The lips tend to dry out very quickly especially during harsh winters and needs that special care. The skin on the lips is so thin that it gets damaged easily. Lips also lack melanin, the natural pigments which protect us from harmful UV rays. Unfortunately this lip product doesn’t provide the required UV protection. Since it’s oil based, it gets transferred easily when you drink or eat. This cannot be avoided and reapplication is a must. But during the night, it stays put and does all the required nurturing.

It’s suitable for indoors and nights due to the fact that it has no UV protection. It’s perfect for people who don’t prefer lipsticks but still want that stained lips look. The fragrance is very fruity and obviously of watermelon. I, being a watermelon lover, can’t resist smacking my lips once in a while.

  2. I went hiking last month and I stopped by the local store to get something for my lips on the way and I saw this on the till (it was available at a reasonable price).
The way it just glides easily on the lips, leaving them smelling good, hydrated and moist. Another win is it adds a pretty colour to my lips :)

  3. At one stage I used to be obsessed with collecting different lip balms. I tried out the Labello Fruity Shine Watermelon as well as the peach one and they are incredibly moisturizing. I found that I didn’t have to reapply as often, as the product lasted really long.

    The packaging:
Standard labello packaging of plastic. It doesn’t accidently clip open, which is nice. It contains 5,5ml of product.

The product is tinted, but very sheer. On my lips, I couldn’t notice a colour change when I put the product on, but my lips are quite naturally a deep pink.

    The texture:
The product is creamy and quite thick on your lips once applied and your hair will definitely get stuck in it if there is a strong South Easter Cape Town wind. That was probably the most annoying part about the product. It doesn’t feel that lightweight, so you can definitely feel that you’re wearing a lip product.

    The scent:
The scent of the product is very strong. It’s like having a freshly cut watermelon infront of you all the time.

Overall the product is great, but I’m not a big fan of the texture on my lips. It feels greasy, which I don’t really like.

  4. I bought the Labello Fruity Shine Watermelon. I lovely the shiny velvety feel when applied. Glides easily on the lips. The smell of this product felt exactly as when one slice opens a fresh watermelon.
