I have the Catrice Ultimate Colour Lipstick in Maroon. I love the sleek black packaging and the imprinted “Catrice” on the bullet of the lipstick. It makes it look nice and luxurious when it is actually a really affordable product (R70).
The pigmentation of these lipsticks are excellent and you get around 3-4 hours of wear out of it. It sets as a creme finish and as can be expected with any lip product that is not a stain. However, it does not survive eating or drinking.
Overall, these are great lipsticks for a very affordable price! Head down to your Dischem and see if there are any shades you want to try!
Catrice Smoky Eyes Brush
This is one of my favourite makeup brushes but I rarely use it to smoke out eye shadow. This is my eyebrow brush. I use the angled brush side of this brush to apply product into my brows and it works perfectly to shape the eyebrows.
I have used the shorter, thicker brush side to blend darker shades into my crease and it worked really well for that too.
Overall, a really great brush for a great price!
Rimmel Scandaleyes Thick & Thin Eyeliner
Another useless eyeliner I have purchased with high hopes. Initially, I loved this eyeliner. It was easy to draw precise lines that looked good and tidy. However, after three uses, the “thin” side dried almost completely. I have tried storing it upside down but that didn’t seem to help. Other than it drying before I even really got to try it, it also fades really quickly. So by the end of the day, you have faded, patchy eyeliner and that really is not a cute look!
Maybelline Superstay 10H Stain Gloss
These lipsticks are absolutely gorgeous right after application. The fat, fluffy doe foot applicator has a hole in the middle, which ensures that a good amount of product gets picked up, but somehow this is just the right amount I need for my lips. The initial creme finish sets as a lip stain. The product claims super stay of 10 hours, but this is not what I have experienced. Most of the product was off of my lips within 2 hours when I had lunch as well. Maybe claiming 5 hours stay would have been a little bit more accurate. I love the shades they have available and the consistency of these lip glosses, and would therefore keep wearing them. However, I wouldn’t recommend them for their staying power.
Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Lip Balm in Berry Bomb
I expected quite a lot from the Maybelline Baby lips, especially with all the hype and raving reviews that it received overseas. However, when trying it, it was quite a let down. It is nice and moisturizing, but probably more for four hours instead of 8. Some of the shades have lovely pigmentation, while I struggled with pigmentation in others. This is a very hit or miss kind of product. If you want some colour on your lips without wearing lipstick, this would be great for you, and for R30 you can’t really go wrong!
Maybelline nail polishes
I purchased a few of the Maybelline nail polishes at Dischem for R35, which is a bargain! My favourite one is Mauve Kiss. It is a beautiful beige that is perfect for everyday wear and especially if you work in an environment where you cannot necessarily wear bright shades. The brush is of medium thickness. It applies relatively well and you get a streak free opaque nail in one coat. The lasting power, however, is not impressive. I usually struggle with chipping nails within 3 days.
