I bought the Clinique Cheek Pop in Peach Pop which appears as a bright orange in the container.
The presentation, with the flower pattern and clear container is absolutely gorgeous. It looks so cute in my makeup collection.
However, this product is more than just a pretty face. At first, it seemed that not much product was getting onto my blush brush as there wasn’t any of that powdery excess ordinarily found with other blushes. However, once I applied it to my face I realized that this blush is highly pigmented and that very little is actually needed to give a beautiful, healthy summery glow. There was no fallout from the blush at all – ie ZERO wastage.
The pigment blends easily onto the skin and gives a lovely non-shimmery colour. The Peach Pop has certainly been my go-to shade now that the days have warmed up and the fact that it isn’t shimmery means you can go into the sun without looking like a disco ball.
This product is certainly worth the investment – especially for summer. Expect loads of pigment without the cakey-ness usually associated with other blushes. Love it!
Worst in range
The Labello Lip Butters have become my go-to for keeping my lips moisturized: in the office and on my bedside. Because your fingers have to be used to apply the product, I wouldn’t recommend this for when you are out and about (try one of the Labello sticks, instead). Also, not recommended unless you have short nails as the butter often gets stuck under your nails during application.
While the Raspberry Rose smells absolutely delicious, it does have a pale pink colouring to it which will make dark lips look odd and pasty. After trying the Original and Macadamia Nut Lip Butters I was keen to see if this product would perform similarly. Alas, it does not. Somehow it is just not as moisturizing and it can leave a pale pink film on the lips that will become crusty. If you have really dry, full lips that are darker than the rest of your skin, I would rather recommend that you use one of the other products in the Labello Lip Butter range.
I have had sensitive teeth from my teenage years.
I used to hate the taste of Sensodyne and the fact that my dentist said I had to use it.
But then Sensodyne introduced Rapid Action which changed my life and just a short while later this amazing product: Repair and Protect.
If you have sensitive teeth you need this product. The tube is smaller than standard tubes on the supermarket shelves, however, due to the fact that you don’t need to use as much I find that it lasts as long as the regular sized tubes. The paste is a bit more softer, almost more fluid than the standard toothpaste giving it quite a pleasant texture. The taste is mildly minty and works well to freshen breath.
Bottom line: this is a fantastic product and it works.
Better than most
I have been very unfortunate with most eyeliners: no matter what I do I always land up with raccoon eyes within a few hours.
I love the smudged look as opposed to a hard line (which you would usually get with liquid liners), so I am always on the hunt for a product that can give me a softer look while staying put for longer.
The Stila Smudge Stick works better than most. It smudges beautifully but limits the raccoon eyes. After 3 hours of wear, the product only drifted underneath my eyes (a little bit) and in the corners of my eyes – this is a huge improvement to my usual experience which is product everywhere within an hour.
The product is super-soft upon application and I have to be very careful when using it. The first time I used it – I lined my upper lids and found, when I opened my eyes, that the product had spread under my eye too! Luckily, the smudge formula came to the rescue – and I the result was a beautifully smudged eye.
The packaging is very playful, with stars decorating the pencil. However, the twist function does not work very well – it requires quite a number of twists for new product and one twist too many and you may have trouble as the pencil does not retract. The biggest downside to this product, however, is the price. Sadly, nothing about this product justified the R200+ price tag.
No colour integrity
I am currently wearing Maybelline ColorShow in Fall Deep. In the bottle this is a pretty mauve-type colour with a slight hint of nude – basically on the nude/beige side of mauve. It took two coats for the colour on my nails to resemble the colour in the bottle (first coat was streaky). However, once the product dried it barely resembled the colour in the bottle. The beige-y hints deepened into a muddy brown and looks like a purple-y brown instead of the colour in the bottle.
I can’t complain about the rest of the product though. I love the pots which are sturdy glass bottles with a very sophisticated design – makes the product look more expensive than it is. The pots have deep necks – which is great for removing excess product from the applicator brush without the risk of spill. The applicator brush is generous and easy to handle – I love that it is thick and disperses the perfect amount of product in a single application. The product seems dry in 30 minutes – but as I discovered when I pushed an elevator button 2 hours later (and consequently dented the tip of my right index finger) it actually only sets properly after about 8 hours (which is also when you will notice the colour change).
I am not sure whether I would try the other colours in this range – as colour integrity is a big deal for nail varnish. However, it should be noted that this is an excellent quality product for a really low price. Nothing, other than the price, about this product indicates that it is a bargain buy – so I may be tempted to try another shade.
Having two masks in the box gave me a little leeway to experiment: I tried it once literally before a date and once in a more relaxed atmosphere.
The mask fits well, covering my whole face with no excess cloth – which was great as I was curling my hair with the mask on. It started feeling a little tingly, which did make me feel a little nervous for my date, but I pressed on and wore it for the thirty minutes it took to do my hair.
I used the remaining serum to rub into my neck, décolletage and hands – there was a lot of excess serum, which made me feel like this product was really good value for money. Once done, the remaining serum easily absorbed into my skin and I was able to apply my moisturizer and make-up over it with no problem at all. You are able to get on with the rest of your date preparation (doing your hair or dressing) without the mask getting in the way too much – so you can literally use it before a date.
However, this mask really comes into its own when the results are not covered up with make-up immediately. A few days later, I used this mask before bedtime. I woke up the next morning with skin that looked really refreshed and youthful.
With two masks in the box and plenty of leftover serum to use on your neck, décolletage and hands this product is great value and actually works to give you a more refreshed appearance.
Oh – and quite nifty: the eye holes have flaps, so you can opt to have them open (for when you are preparing for your date) or closed (for when you are relaxing).
This is a great in between product to use instead of your really expensive masks, and also to ensure that your hands and décolletage also gets a bit of a treat – as I find most masks only have enough serum to cover the neck. I can’t wait to head back to the store to grab a few more boxes.
