A little piece of Sir Richard Branson’s heaven

Monday, 22 June 2015

A beautiful 22-bedroom hotel and vineyard nestled in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley is a must-visit when you’re in town. After all, it belongs to Sir Richard Branson, so you can’t go wrong!

We were invited to the hotel to visit the Spa at Mont Rochelle. It’s the perfect place to escape to and forget all your problems. The staff and therapists were so helpful and knowledgeable and it was definitely an unforgettable experience. We also love the fact that the spa uses Africology products for the treatments.

These are the treatments we got to experience:

Name: Shaman’s Healing Journey

What it entails: A gentle and warm rose quartz and amethyst crystal massage that releases pent up energy likely to cause muscular stress. A beautiful way of balancing the body’s energy centers to create optimum health and well-being.

Duration: This is a 90-minute treatment.

What we thought: I can’t remember much of the massage as I quickly drifted off into a deep sleep. This is not something I have ever done before. It was that good – that’s why! I remember waking up at the end feeling totally relaxed and all my muscles that were tight, and my head that was blocked with tension, was totally relieved. I really felt like a different person. The therapist said she could feel that I had blocked energy. The treatment rooms were calming and pretty – nothing over the top.

Name: Bespoke Yoga Massage

What it entails: This massage covers the whole body and targets stress and stiff areas. The stretching movements increase flexibility and releases tension allowing the body’s natural energy to flow more freely – ideal after a long flight!

Duration: This is a 90-minute treatment

What we thought: This was unlike any massage I have ever had before. My therapist started off my pressing on my pressure points (all the way from my head to my feet). I must admit that this was quite a painful process, but I knew it would relieve a lot of pent-up stress. What followed next was incredible – she maneuvered my body into all sorts of different yoga-like positions, holding it in place each time for a certain number of seconds. Every position she moved me in resulted in lots of clicking – proof that my tight muscles were pushing my bones out of place! This was followed by a deep massage all over my body, which was wonderful after the stretching and pressure point pushing. My stiff muscles felt looser and more relaxed as soon as she had finished, and I felt an overall “lightness” and better flexibility. The scent of the Africology products that were used during the treatment really helped me relax and were very therapeutic. This spa is the ultimate escape, and I can’t wait to go back!
