Different cleansers for different skin types

Regardless of your skin type, everyone has specific goals for their skin. This can be anything from eliminating stubborn blemishes to evening out tone, or turning a lacklustre complexion into a radiant one. A specific skin care routine suited to your skin and its needs is needed to have a visible effect, and it all starts with step one of your skin care regime: cleansing.

Here, some cleansers that will get you on the right track to getting the skin you want.

A cleanser to fight blemishes
If you’re going the natural route, try The Body Shop Tea Tree Cool & Creamy Wash, R70. Tea tree oil helps soothe and clear blemishes, and this gentle cleanser won’t dry out your skin.

If you want something a bit stronger with a dose of blemish-fighting salicylic acid, then FaceB4 Daily Cleansing Foam, R199.95, is for you. It combines a cleanser and toner and is fragrance-free.

A natural cleanser
Many people are gravitating towards natural and organic beauty products, and if you’re following suit, you should try Paula’s Choice Earth Sourced Perfectly Natural Cleansing Gel, R305. It is 99% natural, and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin and baby skin. It is free of colourants and fragrances, and is not tested on animals.

A gentle cleanser
Not everyone can use just any cleanser they find, as many women still battle to find products suitable for very sensitive skin. If this sounds familiar, give Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser, R425, a try. The rich foam is extra gentle, and effectively removes impurities and excess sebum.

A cleanser to illuminate
We all know that a radiant complexion can only be achieved through regular exfoliation, so if your skin is looking a little lacklustre, try Elizabeth Arden Skin Illuminating Smoothing Cleanser, R260. It contains enzymatic micro-beads which remove dead skin cells and assists in creating a brighter, glowing skin.

A cleanser for even tone
An even skin tone can make the difference between wearing heavy foundation, or opting for a lightweight tinted moisturiser. Get started with Yardley Oatmeal Even Tone Cleansing Gel, R59.95. Filled with grapefruit extract, it clarifies and moisturises the skin while cleansing, to assist in a healthier complexion.

An anti-ageing cleanser
Though a cleanser will never delay the signs of ageing on its own, it can assist the rest of the products in your routine. We love Almay Kinetin Age Regenerative Complex 2-in-1 Cleanser & Toner, R175. It contains anti-ageing ingredient Kinetin plant extract along with willowbark extract, which gently exfoliates.

I use Neutrogena and I must say that I am happy but I would love to try a few of these products especially the Elizabeth Arden Skin Illuminating Smoothing Cleanser

I buy The Body Shop’s tea tree range for my boyfriend since he has oily skin and it’s a fuss-free routine for him to just slap on some face wash and lotion. I haven’t seen an improvement on the reduction of breakouts or anything just yet and it’s been about three months.

I’m a big Neutrogena fan. I intend on trying Yardley Oatmeal Even Tone next. And the price is very reasonable.

I am also a Neutrogena user as a creature of habit, but I would like to try the natural cleansers.

I am currently using Yardley Oatmeal Even Tone Cleansing Gel and it is really working for me, I use to break out a lot and I have not in a while. Also my pores are smaller and my skin is smoother, I combined this with the moisturizer in the same make.

I recently started using the L’Oreal Paris SKIN PERFECTION Purifying Gel wash for normal to combination skin and I must say it really does give you skin that “refreshed” feeling. It is gentle and does not leave the skin feeling tight or dry. It claims to remove impurities, unblock pores, “reveal” clean and fresh skin; and also contains no soap. I’ve had a pleasant experience in my short time of use of this product and would recommend it for anyone with dry, normal or combination skin.

I have never liked the Yardley Oatmeal Skincare range. I guess because I have never read or heard anyone say it works, I assume it doesn’t but maybe its wroth a try? I’m currently using the Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit foaming face wash and it’s working like a bomb. No tight feeling and my skin feels clean and soft.
