Does expensive really mean better?

Does expensive really mean better? 2

When it comes to skincare, there is something available for every budget. You may find yourself in a position where you are able to choose between two products that claim to offer the same benefits – yet one is too affordable to be true, and the other one breaks the bank. What determines the price of a skincare product, and how do you know if it’s worth the cost?

First off, we need to stress that price is not the determining factor as to whether a product is good or not. There are amazing expensive products, and there are underwhelming expensive products. And the same goes for the affordable ones. Like all businesses, skincare companies need to make a profit. The higher the costs to produce and sell the items, the more they need to be sold for. Does the cream you buy have a celebrity endorsement? Is it advertised on billboards? If so, you need to take into account the major marketing costs of that company. That’s factored into the price of the products. An expensive product may be expensive purely because it is advertised widely, rather than for what it is.

But then, there are those products that are priced according to their ingredients, and these are the ones we’re interested in. Active ingredients like vitamin C, retinol and hyaluronic acid are costly, and if they are present in a product, in decent percentages, it will push up the price of that product. Plus, active ingredients need to be stored in airtight packaging that protects them from oxygen and sunlight. This usually takes form in pump bottles, which are more costly to produce than jars or tubes. Cosmeceutical skincare products sold at skincare clinics and doctors’ offices contain great quality active ingredients that push up their prices. But when you purchase one of these, you can rest assured that what you’re paying for, is the quality of the ingredients and the formulation – not for the celebrity endorsement.

The bottom line? Price is important, but it’s not the most important. Determine your budget, and search for the best quality products within it. Buy from brands you trust, and who can prove their claims. Don’t be swayed by beautiful adverts or packaging – be swayed by top quality ingredients that will make a real difference in your skin. Research is your best friend! Read as much as you can and ask those in the know for their recommendations.

Skin Renewal stocks a wide range of skincare products suitable for various budgets, but no matter which one you choose, you’ll be assured that the ingredients are of the highest quality and efficacy.
